That guy can't be serious right? It has 94,000 miles on it and its modded out the ass. I've seen used EVOs going for 20k! I wonder who's the bigger fool: the seller or the person who actually pays that much for it...

There is a 1GA floating around on the net for sale with only 50k miles on it. The guy is asking $5,500. Only 50k is nice, but I think the price is still a little steep. I think it's kinda nuts what some people are trying to get for DSM's. DSM's are old news and turbo AWD cars are everywhere these days. Like you said, some people are asking prices in the EVO range for 2G's. People are crazy.

Consider the cost to you to:
  1. Buy the car.
  2. Buy mods for the car.
  3. Install mods on the car.
  4. Tune car for the mods you've installed.
  5. Replace the stuff the mods broke.
  6. Repeat #2 through #5, until you've reached the configuration being sold.
Value is in the eye of the beholder. It's not worth $18k to you. It might be worth $18k to someone, though, after they do the math.

By way of example: I dare you to say that this 2g isn't worth the $20k asking price. :D

You really shouldn't say anything. As stated above if you don't want it then don't get it. Just because you think the price is too high doesn't mean that you should come on here and make a thread about it. That is pointless. It is also very rude, how would you feel if someone bashed on you for your asking price? You are hurting his chance of a sale.

I've seen rediculous price tags on way worse cars. Yes, a lot of them are dsm's but just laugh and move on. What about Vette's? 10k for any year? Yeah right!

This deserved it's own Hangout post for what reason?

I dare say the biggest fool is the man who surfs by and actually wastes his time constructing a post to ridicule said ad.

Kids these days..

hahaha coming from leet... that means you guys have truly crossed the lines... But I agree with everyone else and these hangout posts are getting rediculous... can we show some maturity around here?

You are. You searched the classifieds, Found his ad and did not like the price. You then took the time to post a thread on this forum ranting and raving that you think he is ridiculous for asking such a price. It IS NOT your car, And YOU ARE NOT buying it, Who cares? Why would you care so much to post a thread about his asking price? No one obviously cares if it was $50,000. I bet you're one of those people that see something on a car and talk shit about them putting it on there, When it has nothing to do with you, It does not effect you in any way, And no one else would even say anything.

Just do like I do when I see ads like this for various cars, call and offer half, It actually worked for me, I just bought a truck that was listed for 2000 and got it for 550:thumb:

Well, when i was 16 in 1986 I bought my first car. I was a 1970 U code Plymouth Cuda
It had the wrong motor in it but, it was very clean and low miles. All my high school buds
thought that I was nuts giving for it 3200$!

Well in 2002 I sold the car for 25K and I gave the car away! most restored mopars get 50K or more for bigblock cars!

lets face it used car guides are just that "guides" and as it has been said before If its to rich for you dont buy it!

I just looked at some of the other posts the original poster has made, and it seems that all he ever does is complain about pricing on cars.

Actually that car is a bolt on dsm ( t28 WTF ) with suspension work and a paintjob / weight reduction. That one imo is NOT worth the asking price ... but then again maybe that's what it's worth to him.

All I was doing was making an observation. It's hard not to see the ad, it's right on the front page. And can any of you honestly tell me that that car's selling price isn't laughable and it's truely worth that amount? That's what I thought... No all any of you can say (minus one poster who actually agreed with me) is "0mg how dare u critisize sum1's clazzifieds ad!!!111"

Actually the price of the aftermarket parts and installation does not add anything to the value of the car, because those parts were supposed to be there in the first place, just in the form of stock parts. Also the milage on those parts also reduce the value of them. I know this because I was planning on building a car just to sell it and make big money. It wasn't until I bought the racing pistons, clutch, exhaust, ect., ect. that a car buddy showed me a link on KBB or something that stated that "souping up" a car can actually DECREASE the value of the car. Because the same amount of milage on that car compared to a stock one puts more wear on internal parts.... you guys should remember this, cause I dropped the project and sold the parts for a total loss of $550+.

Maybe so but modded or not any item is only worth what someone eles is willing to pay for it!

To someone competitively autocrossing at the national level in SCCA Street Modified, the suspension R&D invested along with all of the datalogging capabilities of that car are worth far more than $20k.

You see a low-power, small-turbo car, because your interests lie elsewhere. Others see years of research and development, numerous trophies, and a suspension setup that would cost a small fortune to reproduce.

That's the point I was trying to make in my previous post: value is in the eye of the beholder. The current owners of these cars see a great deal of value there, and they're banking on the fact that someone else will see that as well. You don't, and that's fine; you're not who they're selling to.

It decreases its value to the average consumer. It increases value, if done correctly, to the right audience.

Know your market.

Hahahahha! I hate when people try to complain about the price your selling your car for, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE NOT EVEN GOING TO BUY IT.
Or, They'll low ball you with some ridiculous price, And they still don't even have that much.
