Ok..so i finally got my logger and got it up and running. I thought I was getting the pocket logger software but I got tunerstein. Bought it all used from somebody online. So Does tunerstein really suck? I am kind of getting it BUT...i cant seem to find out if it records knock????? I have read on here that once I start tuning I can keep on tuning until I get zero knock.
I will be putting on a 16G
550's
190 fuel pump
SAFCII.
So I just drive down the street at WOT and then tune with the SAFC?? That cant be right?
I'm gonna need a dyno yeah?
And most likely somebody who REALLY knows what they are doing cuz I dont just yet.
Also,
how do people tune without a logger of any sort?
Should I get the pocket logger software and how can i get just that?
Should i sell the whole logger and start again? AHHHHHHH!!!!
???????
I know thats a lot of questions and I'm always on here for hours searching and reading, but I'm getting confused.
thanks!

i dont like tunerstein,so i use mmcd.its a lot more user-friendly for me personally.and it does record knock.i use the ecimulti.org version,it works great.you can tune with the afc on wot.log knock,02 voltage, and your fuel trims.(ltft and stft on 2g,and lo,mid,hi on 1g).youll want to tune for zero knock and get your fuel trims around 100%.wot tuning is easy as hell, mid sucks because its time consuming.and youll adjust idle so it idles right and the 02 voltage isnt too high or low.with me,i tune just a lil on the rich side so i dont lean it out too much.

So will this software work for OBDII?
Also, how do I get it from the computer to the palm? I think i might need some adapter???
Anyway to get the pocketlogger software?

So I CANT see knock with tunerstein?
How do people use that to tune then?
How can I tell if im getting knock?
DANG.should have got pocketlogger software.
HELP!

like i said,i dont use tunerstein,so im in the dark on what all it can log.on 2g's,you just wanna watch your timing.my mmcd is on my palm 7x.mmcd has ltft and so on,so it should work with an obd2 adapter.and you need a cradle to connect it to your computer.it just uses the palm software to install it and to download logs to the computer.

First off palmNstein isn't that bad of a program I use it myself it just takes alittle getting use to. Don't worry about reading knock because you know what? YOU CAN'T ON A 2G...unless you have dsmlink. So what you are going to want to watch for is dips in your timing that is a sign of knock. If you have the SAFC then you can richen it up there alittle bit. Go to the tech guide on here and read the tuning articles and it will get you set on the right path. Don't give up on palmNstein it is all that you will need for now atleast to get use to tuning. Also I personally don't tune at night because my logger doesnt have a backlight LOL. Also it is alot easier to see cops off in the distance during the day so you can be careful on your WOT bursts. Try and find an old highway that isnt very busy. Good luck :thumb:

Goat,
That was one of the most helpful posts i've ever read on here answering one of my dumb ass questions.
Guess I'll stick to tunerstein and keep on reading before i start tuning.
one more thing?
dyno or no dyno?
HooahGST

If you can afford it I would go with a dyno but tuning your car in is alot of fun really because you really get to know your car and can tell alot easier if something is messed up. Also dynos are EXPENSIVE EXPENSIVE EXPENSIVE!!!! I do all of my tuning on the road that way if something breaks and I need to tune on the fly I have the knowledge and knowhow on what to do. Also what kind of computer do you have a desktop or a laptop? I have a laptop and it doesn't have a serial port to plug the palm into and a usb adapter doesnt work with the palmNstein software. If you have a serial port on your computer then you are good to go but if not don't worry about it, I just read my log frame by frame and just type it into a word document because honestly everyone has alittle time to do it and it doesnt take that long. Also have you read around the Tuning and Engine Management forum, there is TONS of information in there that is extremely helpful, I went through and read pretty much every one of them, examining the logs that were posted and read how to help how to fix them. Then I would go back and try and see if I could solve the problems on my own and then finish reading the post to see if I was correct. It is a good way to practice the tuning w/o actually having to do it on your car so you will be prepared for yours.
