I just finished rebuilding my motor (bearing went out). Got everything hooked back up and I went to do the compression test and I realized it was in reverse. When I went to put it in neutral, I noticed there was a lot of resistance. So I ran it through the gears. Results-
1st and 2nd- Minimal resistance (a little bit more than normal)
3rd and 4th- Quite a bit of resistance
5th and reverse- Can't get into them at all

I took off the shift cable linkage and I still can't get it to go into 5th and reverse. Everything was fine before I spun the rod bearing.

The only thing I can think of, is when I was filling up the transmission I thought the fill hole was the hole right under all the shift linkage. I used more transmission fluid than I thought I should've, so I checked again and figured out I used the wrong hole. When I opened up the fill hole, a bunch drained out. I let it drain to the correct level.

This is my DD so I want to get it back on the road as soon as possible. So any help is appreciated!

When you "took off the shift cable linkage" was it at the transmission or at the shifter? If at the shifter then you may want to make sure that the transmission cable bracket is bolted to the transmission properly. The "washers" that fit between the transmission and the bracket are bushings and actually align the bracket, at least to my knowledge. Good luck.

I was missing a washer. Figured that out earlier. Thanks for the response! That would've helped a lot if I didn't figure it out.

Quick question, did you remove the reverse light switch and gasket and not reinstall the aluminum crush washer? Same goes for the reverse lockout switch bolt and aluminum crush washer. These would be the 24mm socket plastic switch that connects to your wiring harness, and then the 19mm head bolt by the shift selector. If either of those gaskets are missing, or over flattened, it will damage the switches and bind the shifting up.
