I found a 4g63 6 bolt engine for sale locally. I went out to take a look and the owner says he had it built by a guy in Florida for $2500 about 5 years ago. It only has 100 miles on it because a valve spring busted and he didn't have time to fix it. I believe that this guy is telling the truth about it but he can't find any paperwork on it. The head was off and the pistons don't look oem. He doesn't know if they are forged but says the bottom end was cryo treated. It has arp headstuds.

He ran it once at the track before the valve issue and ran an 11.7 quarter mile. Is there any to tell if the pistons are forged without taking them out, (before I pay for it)? I'm not sure exactly what to think about it, and it's for a good price, maybe it's worth it to have an extra block? Maybe some people with experience on this kind of thing can help me out? Thanks

Hard to be leave that It has 100 Mile on the engine<< (AND BEEN AT THE TRACK)?
If it takes at least 300 Miles to break in a Motor, (to seat piston Rings).
How come it has only 100 Miles and all ready at the Track?.

BUSTED!, but yes my buddy had a 7 bolt gsx that was a fresh rebuilt stroker 2.3l and he thought it would be smart to bust out some BOOST with only 77 fresh miles on it and blew it up for the 4th time.

Any markings on the top of the pistons? Any markings on the bottom? JE's have JE stamped on the bottom.

I believe that it had a "k" on top of the pistons. Is it usual for a valve spring to just break on a built head if it wasn't broken in?

There might have been a few other numbers on the tops of the pistons too but the "K" was the biggest, it could have been an "H" now that I think of it...I wish I would have taken a picture! There was an engraved arrow on each piston pointing to the front of the engine.
