Left side speakers dont work??

Hey guys since ive had my gsx the right side of the speakers havent worked? i pulled the right door speaker out and it looks old as hell but doesnt look beat up, i mean granted the speakers are almost 17 years old.. i dont know if this is a common thing or not but does anyone know why they might not be working? In my 97 gst only the rear speakers worked when i had it idk if it was the same problem or not? any help or advice would be great

A bad speaker or some wiring issue, gonna have to start somewhere.

are you using an AUX cord or radio? does it ever cut in and out or does it simply just never play out of the left side? turn on some music then take a volt meter and see if the speakers are getting power or not. if they aren't then it's a wiring problem, if they are then the speakers bad.

Im using a usb with my ipod but it the didnt work when i had the factory radio in either and good thinking with the volt meter idk what that didnt cross my mind thanks man!

i had a similar issue with both rear speakers. wiring seemed fine and the radio harness so i took out a speaker and put in the front and it worked great. so i dug deeper into the wiring behind the radio and dash to see that the guy before me did some doctor frankenstien stuff. Took me forever to figure out what he did but finally got it. Had to slice and run 2 new wires from the harness to the speakers. works great now.

I haven't had time to play with the speakers yet but im going to bull off the door speaker, and plug in a different speaker and if it still doesnt work im going to use the volt meter to check it... worst comes to worst ill have to run new wires which is no big deal me and my friends do electrical stuff all the time

stock speaker has a plug soldered to it's leads, you should test it with a volt meter before you put a new speaker on, installing the new speakers requires soldering on the connector plug again if you still want to keep the connector but idk why you wouldn't.

What's happened to me in the past is that for some reason the leads on the speaker themselves came in contact with door metal cause them not to operate properly. I guess it does not help that the previous owner used a smaller speaker and the had room to move around

Also, I hate to be "that guy", but coming from tech support... Have you checked that the Balance on the head unit isn't seat all the way to the right? Have you checked that the speakers are plugged in to the back?

Haha ya it was the first 2 things i did actually i thought it was that at first too but i think that i more than likely have to run new speaker wire or the speakers are completely blown out but i doubt both right speakers would be completely blown out you know? i bet the wires running them went bad

I would first check the wiring, seeing that it would not cost you any money if you did it yourself. Also if the speaker looks "old", it might just be time to replace them.

Corroded copper wire? Pull back some insulation around the connectors and see if they looke blue or have corrosion. Had that problem on my wife's Trailblazer. I just ran new wires on my eclipse, granted I bought a 4-channel amp and new speakers...

Well if it's stock why would the previous owner did some crazy wiring stuff? The first thing to do though is check for power at the speaker. If there is no power at the speaker go to the head unit and check for power there. After that it would be obvious what the problem would be. Either the head or the wiring or the speaker.
