420A Leaking Oil Galley Plugs 420a

Has anyone had luck tapping the oil galley hole and putting a threaded plug in there? I just recently rebuilt the motor and I've had the motor out multiple times to attempt to fix but nothing seems to work. I've tried the local auto part store plugs, OEM plugs ($4 a piece), and all have failed. Maybe someone could give me some input on what they have done to fix this. The main one that keeps leaking is the one in-between the motor and the transmission the outside one hasn't yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

did you use anything to help it seal? some teflon paste should do the trick, you only need a small amount

I have used some high tack stuff it did not work. Does anyone know what they use on the plugs from the factory? Or do they install without anything on them?

get the teflon liquid paste, it works. orielly/shucks/autozone carries it

Have you had luck with the permatex teflon pipe joint compound on the 420a engine plugs? Because the galley plugs are much different then the ones found in the 4g63 blocks because they are threaded. The plugs in the 420a are very small and are similar to a freeze/expansion plug but smaller with no thread.

The oil galley plugs are pipe thread. So at most teflon tape and tighten them down good. If its still leaking I would take it to a machine shop and see what they say about re threading it.

I assure you that those plugs are not threaded. I have a '96 and a '97 block and the galley plugs are not threaded. If they were I probably wouldn't have had this problem to begin with. Again this is for a 420a engine I know the 4g63 blocks have a threaded plug

If you are talking about freeze plugs then no they aren't threaded, but you said OIL GALLEY PLUGS those are in the head on either side and would make sense since your OP said the one between the engine and transmission is leaking. Freeze plugs have nothing at ALL to do with oil so if those are leaking oil you have a whole slew of problems to deal with...

I am no newb at all to the 420a I was working with what the origional post said.

Does anyone know how to get this plug to stop leaking? What types of sealants have been used on these plugs? Any info would be greatly appreciated

Has anyone ever had the problem of these plugs leaking? Idk if the guy I had do the block work had trouble removing them and some how messed up the sealing surface when removing the plug. I have tried threading and putting a threaded plug in my other block I had laying around but not so sure it is going to work. Does anyone have any info on how to stop this from leaking?
