I am going to the track for the first time(i am 17). i drive a laser fwd 6 bolt 4g63 n/t. my mods are an ebay 3" intake pipe with a drop in k&n filter, a test pipe and no muffler, and hopefully my headers will come in before i go so i can get them on there. i have never raced before so i was wondering if anyone can tell me how to launch properly for my car and also what does dropping/dumping/slipping the clutch mean?

I use to drive a manual sohc neon with the same mods except undrive pully and solid motor mounts. What i did was held it at 3500 to 4500 and just dropped the clutch meaning holding it the clutch to the floor then just letting it go all the way released.

Slipping the clutch is when you slowly let it go till you fill it grab then drop it all the way released. best method for awd launches to preload the driveline.

Just go to the track and find what works best for you and you get the best times. Try different rps you want to spin a little not alot so you dont stall and shift at your rpm limit. Good luck have fun.

thanks...i've heard that dropping the clutch is real bad for the transmission and clutch is that true?

im rockin one right now actually...what times were you running? ive got the same mods minus the UDP, and dropped about 200 pounds from the interior/engine bay...

and about launching, i always found that the best way was just going out and doing it. Learning the car, being able to to find that line between grip/spinning, etc just takes repeated trys.

ok i will try practicing the launch metheods i just dont wanna mess up my cluth to bad since its only stock i dont think it will take to much abuse

If you dont want to mess your stock clutch up do this..... DONT launch the car.

There is no way to launch and not ruin the clutch alittle.

Infact with my GST i never launched it ( also i couldn't cause i would just spin ) but i ran 14.1 with a 16g (supporting mods) at 20psi. I did although slip the clutch while 2-stepping it at 3k till 5mph

LOL, I love when people give crappy info like just dropping a clutch as hard as possible. Good way to break drivetrain parts.

Best way is to preload the clutch. So hold the ebrake up. Rev the motor to the RPM you want to launch at. Slowly release the clutch untill it starts to barely grab but you wont move because the ebrake is on. Now the clutch is preloaded. Release the clutch, slam the gas and lower the ebrake all at the same time. This allows for a smooth launch and is a lot safer than just dropping the clutch.

No no no. It isnt a just a good way, its an almost surefire way unless your rocking a fully modded DT

I would say get a better clutch.. it may not seem like a lot but it helps a ton especially for launching a fwd car or awd

yeah im looking into better clutches right now. does anyone suggest one? thats not super high priced

this is excellent info that you should take to heart, until you have upgraded drivetrain you should definitely stick to a street type of disc and slip that thing. only problem is watch frying up ## clutch. don't hot lap the car while slipping the clutch or you'll wear it out in a heartbeat
