Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your time.

For the past days I've been making some launches with my stock 97 GSX.

I was wondering if someone could please post a picture of a stock gsx dyno run to more or less know where the torque/power peaks are so I can change gears accordingly.

Dragging against FWD cars with less power they usually catch me when I gear into fourth or third gear is about to finish (170bhp and lighter cars, renault clio sport for example). I guess it must be that i can't drive.

Thanks again and regards

Not to much fun getting beat by lower power cars huh?

Unfortunately.....gonna either have to get used to it....or MOD.

A GS-T will run a GSX down in the quarter and PASS it right after the 1320' mark goes by.

Equal drivers of course.

Get a Air filter and UICP with a 1G BOV, and a cat-back.....best bang for the bux.

After that a MBC set to 15 psi....ought to get you to 240 hp, and you'll pull alot of cars....including some modded V8 stuff.

Someone's stock dyno sheet won't help you much. I'll just give you the skinny....shift at 6000 cause after 5500 your not making any power anyways on the T25. 6000 will just put you a little higher in the next gears power range.

Once you get a bigger turbo you can shift at 7499 :D

oh and I was gonna say....Aren't you the lucky one...in Europe with a AWD DSM :thumb:

Hi there gsxtacy :)

No fun at all ... believe me :(

I'm about to mod anyway, hope after that things will change :thumb:

The upgrading path i'm following differs a bit from yours, I'm about to place my order including air filter, intake pipe, bov, mbc and full ic/piping from greddy. What do you think about it? guess 3" exhaust will have to wait a couple months ...

Will this mods (without exhaust yet) be enough to prevent people with such cars get on me at fourth gear? Next upgrades on the wishlist are a 16g, safc, fuel pump and injectors.

Lucky me, your right, not too many awd dsm's here ... I know just anotherone in my country.

Thanks for the reply :thumb:

I would say your planned mods sound good. I will honestly tell you.....Till you can get the exhaust out of your engine better, no you won't pull away from much. Granted it does help to free up the intake stuff.....but its all a waste till you can get it out!

I "recommend" a 1G BOV. Why? It costs $45 (dsmtrader.com), and it will do everything you'll ever want out of it. Can you hear it like a Aftermarket one? HELL YES! Once you get the Air filter, and Turbo inlet pipe, and more boost.....its pretty loud.

I noticed a more ricey PSSSSShhht when I did the mod (in the tech articles here) to it. So you may be kinda disappointed at first....believe me....best BOV for the money...easily recirculate-able....more than 99% of DSMers ever need., and for my final praise of the 1G bov....it looks freakin STOCK!!!

Rewire your stock fuel pump while your waiting on your mods....it takes 1 Hour for a novice electrician......costs less than $20 american, and is a easy first mod. Follow the steps in www.vfaq.com under "Fuel" and you can't go wrong. If you can put in a aftermarket stereo...this should be a walk in the park.

You'll be surprised how much power the upper intercooler pipe and air filter free up. You'll put the MBC on and be like WTF?, and then when you get your Exhaust.....you be saying OMG!!!, and finally when you get the upgrade turbo and fuel controlling device(s), your car will pull Z28's, Mustang GT's, maybe even Corvette's!!!, from a roll :thumb:

Best advice I can give...right here.....RESEARCH!!!!
Next best advice.....MAINTANENCE!!!!

Glad your aboard!!
What part of Europe.....wrong side of the road drivers, or Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Norway??? where?

Check out the autobahn for sure....I saw 175 in my 1995 GSX while I was in Germany!!

good luck and stay safe!

Well, guess I'll have to be patient and wait for the exhaust to experience all the T25 can give :)

I'll rewire the pump this weekend if I have the time, thanks.

For the BOV i'll go for a greddy type-s because they don't have 1g bovs at the online shop and I prefer to order everything together.

Corvettes it's possible for me to se one, but it's nearly impossible to see z38's or mustangs GT's around here.

I'm from Spain, we don't have autobahns but speed laws are quite a bit softer than in the US, fourtunately :thumb: Top speed i've seen my car was 156mph downhill.

Thanks again for all your time and help!! :)

Regards

Exhaust will make a huge difference ina turbo car. I would make that your first mod because you will see the most gain from it. Also part of the reason for you gettign beat ibn forth gear is becasue the AWD has a bti more drive train loss that a FWD car and more weight.

1.15 Euro per Liter in Germany (when I left 1 1/2 yrs ago.)

3.8 Liters per gallon.

$1.29 USD to 1.00 Euro,

4.37 Euro per Gallon.

Equaling $5.33 per gallon.....

Not quite $10 a gallon, but high enough that for the price of 5 Gallons over there you could FILL UP here.

it sux......US Military stationed overseas get Ration Cards, and off base coupons., oh and gas on US installations is the U.S. Average., so they're paying around $1.87 USD on bases/posts.

boostedinaz: I think I'll stick to the intake path and then get the exhaust. I'm very excited with starting to mod and I can't lift the car to install an exhaust so I'll just have to get it installed on the local store. Intake parts can be installed without lifting the car, right?

I guess the filter, intake pipe, BOV and MBC can be done without major problems but I don't know if I'll be able to make all the intercooling piping from the top or just lying on the floor. I'd also like to clean the i/c ...

jt1583 and gsxtacy, 1€ a liter in spain, a bit cheaper than german but quite expensive anyway ...

I hate to break it to you but I bet that maybe 5% of the poeple on this board have acces to a lift to do the shit we do. My car has never seen a lift and I have installed exhaust, two trannies, and will be doing my coilover and strut install the same way, on good old jack stands.

You seem pumped on the intake mods so Ill let you be on that, but I will give you some thing to think about since going fast is your main objective.

I have a 90 Laser FWD and bone stock it went 16.00 at 85.

15# and nothing more 15.5 at about 92.

2.5 inch O2 elim back exhaust 14.3 at 100.00.

FMIC with all aluminum hard pipe 14.2 at 100.00

With both my DSM's I have dropped over a second in the 1/4 and gained at least 8-10 MPH with just exhaust as one of, if not my first mods.

My 2 cents.

Your car your call.

boostedinaz, thanks for braking it :thumb:

Those numbers look great but as you said I'm kind of pumped on the intake.

I have a couple quiestions regarding exhaust anyway, hope you have some time :)

One of the things that makes my exhaust ordering hesitate is the fact that I just can't order the full exhaust. If I ask rnr to send me one, after travelling overseas it will probably arrive all messed up or bent and that would be a shame.

What I've thought is ordering the downpipe and the muffler and then, with those parts in hand, go to a local exhaust store and ask them to build the rest of the line accordingly. Perhaps adding a high-flow cat to the order would be a good idea, but I don't really know if with one of those I'd pass emissions here ...

About an O2 elim system I'm afraid I'll have to do some research about it because I don't really know what's all about. Does my car have two o2 sensors, one of them AFTER the cat and that's the one the eliminator eliminates? Is it neccesesary to install any additional electronics to compensate for the sensor loss?

Edited to add a few more questions: Mi HP goal is around 300whp, is it a 2.5" exhaust fine or I'll have to upgrade to a 3" when i throw in a new turbo and such power arrives? I've centered all my hard research on intake until your post and I'm a bit lost with it, excuse me.

Guess I'll just go to the exhaust shop and talk to them.

What do you think about it?

Many many thanks in advance :)

Good morning olmytsi :)

I bought the car 8 months ago to a guy who imported it from the US in 1998. I paid $25000 with 27000 miles on it, you people have them waaaay cheaper, but it's a RARE car around here and it's been my dream car since it came out.

High milleage GS' are being sold for $15800

There must be around 5 or 6 proud owners of a GSX in the whole country.

Any clues about the exhaust dilemma? :D

if u think the exahust is going to get messed up why would the downpipe alone be ok to use? dont ge t cat unless u really have 2. i have a 3inch turbo back exhaust with no cat and i love it.

I guess the downpipe, being short, won't have too many problems arriving in excelent condition if packed correctly, it's just a guess though.

I don't really think I'd pass emissions just with a test pipe, so keeping that in mind I think a high flower would be the best solution.

Man I'm really considering doing exhaust instead of intake ... everytime I'm about to start modding because I seem to have things clearnew doubts arise :(

Regards

I wanted to do exhaust first as well, because it gives you the biggest gain. However, I decided to go with the intake side first because I LOVE hearing the turbo, and all the intake mods (uicp, bov, intake) magnify that sound! With exhaust, you won't be able to hear it very well anymore. Hope that helps :)

Supreme,

I may be coming into this conversation a little late but you said your goal is 300whp. Here is an EASY way to get it.

1. Exhast: Full 3" turbo back. ($400-$800)
2. Intake: Any decent hard intake pipe will do with a good K&N filter. ($50-$100)
3. Upper IC pipe with a 1G BOV. ($150-$200)
4. FMIC. Just about any brand will do you just get rid of that stock side mount.($700-$1200)
5. Wires. A good set of NGKs will do just fine ($50)
6. Injectors: 550s work nice ($200-$250)
7. Fuel Pump: Walbro 190 (rewired) or a 255lph will work nice($90-$125)
8. Fuel Control: AFC I or AFC II. ($200-$275)
9. Boost and EGT gauge. ($125+)
10. Turbo: EVOIII 16G. I have a buddy who is making just over 300hp on race gas and a regular 16G. With the EVO you might just be able to make that with pump gas. ($569)

Any one else chime in if I missed anything.

This is a vey good list. With this and some decent tunning you can get your car to put down good numbers and if you take care of it it will still be very reliable.

Anything that is getting shipped that far will probably have a few bumps and bruises. I would worry about it and just order it.

first mod i recommend is definitely upper intercooler pipe....it made the biggest difference...the stocker is so small dat it chokes the compressed air. I got the dave brode upper pipe with a 1g bov for 115 off a guy. Good luck and happy boostin in Spain.

Ok let's see ...

As you people know, I was first thinking of starting with intake and then moving on to exhaust, getting expensive parts to make the car look great at the same time as it gets fast.

Thanks to reading the forum and to your coments and opinions, I've changed my mind and so I'm going to go "bang for the buck" and follow the stages performance-wise, leaving cosmetics and bling-blings apart for the moment. I really feel I'm finally starting to understand and respect the dsmtuners.com phylosophy :thumb:

Following this "community" feeling I'm even considering making a website writing about the modification progress, creating vfaqs of every part of the DSMNightmare's list I install. I've seen a lot of sites with staged upgrades paths but no vfaqs, or single vfaqs for a couple parts but I think it would be interesting to write down a full illustrated upgrade path guide from stock to this 300whp goal we're talking about.

I'm just a newbie with just an autometer boostgauge installed (and a FP gauge just hanging there because I don't know how to make it work :) ), but I hope that with your help and comments I'll end up aquiring the knowledge of a "dsm wiseman" :)

Regards
