Just wan't to ask if anyone using there laptop for as a data logger. Does it work? how did you guys do it?

Yes you can do it. You can get the ecmlink v3 cable and use tmo logger or run a palm emulator and mmcd. Idk if u can use the ecmlink software as a logger if u dont have the chip

what kind of cable do I have to use? for the palm emulator mmcd set up?

Yes you can, but it's pretty complicated. And of course you need the cable from ECMLink and the FREE V3 software from DSMLink.com

Quoted from Cracked on DSMTalk:

You can enable the factory
MUT-II support by pulling up regedit.

Find this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\ecmtuning\ecmlink\device

Edit the mainDeviceManagerId and set the value to "2" (should be "1" by
default).

Now when you bring up the ECMLink application, it will use the MUT-II
device plug-in instead of the ECMLink device plug-in.

Configure the connection in the "configure connection" dialog. Set
device type to your year DSM and set the bit rate to 1952.

This works with the stock 1G DSM ECU's, you just can't log most of the stuff the ECMLink chip does for you like lb/min, etc. But all the stuff the ECU see's, you can log.

Seems alot more complicated than its worth.. might as well just spring for the ecmlink device and download the profiles onto your laptop for tuning with their software.

I'm not sure what you mean by "ECMLink device". This uses the same ECMlink software and cable used for tuning, just not the chip that's needed for making changes to the ECU. And it's a good option for those who don't have an extra $500 to burn at the moment but still need some way to monitor the engine.

It's actually very easy (just tried it myself). Just type "regedit" into your search bar in the windows tab (of course after you install DSMLink V3). Then follow the instructions I linked. This won't work for 95/96 EPROM ECU's or Spyder GS ECU's.
