keydance won't work

I have a '97 TSi AWD, CEL code came up, no difference in the car, haven't bought a logger yet and I wanna see what the code is, I tried doing the keydance and it doesn't seem to work? I've tried on-off-on-off-on hitting the button on the turbo timer to turn it off every time I flicked the key off, but that didn't work, then I did the dance faster so the TT wouldn't kick in.. but that didn't work either, I've sat in my car for half an hour taking years off the life of my igniton trying to do this damn thing.. I haven't looked at the manufacture date, but maybe late '97s won't do it or something? I dunno.. anyone have a suggestion?

the Mitsu ECU doenst support that style of code reading, you need a logger

well apparently the 97s do from the info I've found when searching, I just don't know why mine won't.

I believe that only 1g's do this. I know that it will not work on my 97GST.
I see you're in Canada, so I dont know if you have AutoZones, but call around, you should be able to find a place to pull the code for free.

no, 95-97 DSMs are keydance capable, and for some reason I can't get mine to work, maybe it's something with the turbo timer, I dunno

someone who knows help me out.

edit: it's starting to look like this can only be done on N/Ts.. I think that must be what my problem is.. funny it was never specified anywhere I searched, well now it will be when people find this thread.

Like jastermerrel said, just get a shop to read it for free. They have OBDII scanners and will do it for free if you sweet talk 'em. The worst that can happen is they'll charge you a few bucks to read it. Places like Autozone, O'Reilys, Checker, PepBoys, etc. (depending on what you have up there in B.C.) will have this service. Call around, see what you can find. Last resort: go to the dealer to get it read, but you better have $$ ready.

Almost correct. Only 2g N/T DSM's use the keydance. This is because the keydance is a Chysler feature and the 2g N/T engine-ECU is a Chysler (the 1g N/T is Mitsu).

yes you are right, i forgot that one day a 1G N/T member might search and find this.

to clarify

Only the 95-99 N/T Chrysler motors accept the keydance.
