I'm not really sure what to do with this. I got home and had to remove a key while leaving my car running. My key came out of the ignition and was still running. I've known of older Fords and Chevys that have done this, but never a DSM. What would be wrong with the key slot? Bad tumblers? Does the ignition need to be replaced to fix this? I can still put it back in, shut it off, start it, whatever. I'm just able to remove the key while driving...

I'll have to buy all 4 anyway. When I swapped the driver side door, I just left the cylinder from the GS, so I already use 2 keys. So what actually causes this? I've never had this happen to a car of mine.

Just need to replace ignition lock cylinder. quick and easy but the key for the ignition wont match doors or trunk.

Not going to hurt anything i used to like my old car that did that because i could leave it running during the winter, run in to where i needed and lock the doors. LOL

I just looked at the rock auto page. Is there really a difference between the auto and manual cylinders? I'm only asking since it's auto right now, but will be manual in the coming weeks.

I would squirt a little dry graphite in it. Do not use wd40 etc.

WD-40 will dry out any grease inside?

No. Wd 40 attracts dirt

Shift lock override safety so your car (automatic) has to be in park before the key can be removed. Manual doesn't have this safety feature.

So since I'm swapping to manual, and everything including the wire harness is being changed, I'll be safe getting the manual version right?

I would assume so. I think you could put the manual ignition lock cylinder in there right now as a auto, you would just lose the safety feature of having to put your automatic in park before you could remove the ignition key.
