My 97 gsx is sitting in my garage and im trying to figure out whats going on with it. It will start fine and idle fine till it gets up to normal operating temprature than it will just sputter and die. Ive changed the cam sensor, spark plugs, plug wires, checked compression at 155- 155- 160-152. Most problems i see on here with dying out seem like when the car is cold and mine is the opposite.

Try spraying some carb cleaner into the intake by inserting the little plastic nozzle past something. Does it still try to die? If so, you may have a lean condition caused by pcv valve, or injector seals, or even intake gasket. Spray around the intake area outside while it's idling. If you hit a spot and the engine "picks up" there you go.

Just be careful and not burn your car to the ground. If you're not sure how to do it, find someone who is.
Better safe than sorry.

Good Luck

Ok i'll give that a shot, i did check the pcv valve and it seemed to be working. If i am running lean my spark plugs would look white on the tips right? mine after just a day had some good black carbon build up on them and i did recheck the gap to make sure and it is correct. Thanks for the idea

You know, you might scan your ecm and check to see if the Electronic coolant temp sensor is ok. Black plugs and running ratty kindof smacks of that.

If it reads -40 or something like that after the engine is warmed up, it will cause flooding as the pcm thinks it's -40 outside. It may not become pronounced until closed loop. Open loop probably can get away with it somewhat due to it's less than operating temp until it hits closed loop.

Let us know.

I just heard that from somebody else now too, and i've overlooked that sensor before because i thought it made the car run like crap until it warms up than run fine. Thanks again hopefully i'll get it figured out, i've only got to drive it about 3 weeks since i got and i miss it.

Ok so far all my sensors are checking out. My question is now, this studder problem started when my alt. shredded on the highway down to just like a shoe lace thickness, i got home cahnged the belt, it was an old belt. At that time i did get a cam sensor code which i did replace and i havent got that caode again. Could that belt shredding caused a problem like shorting something out like the ecu or the alt. going bad i dont get a low voltage light si wasnt thinking about the power aspect, i've been focusing on ignition and vacum leaks. I wish this car would just give me a cel so i can pinpoint it better. If i cant get it figured out this weekend i got to take it down to the shop and have them find it
