Where do you get this aircraft stripper stuff? I have been getting ready to paint my stock swirlies for the winter but wasn't looking forward to sanding them!

Wal Mart,Advanced Auto Parts,K Mart etc.. Works great! Let it sit on the wheel for about 20 minutes atleast and the paint will just wash away! :thumb:

Sweet, I'll have to try that. Zach, those wheels look badass by the way! :thumb:

Yah, That color would look good with your DSM. Iam just not a fan of polished "chrome" wheels atleast not on our cars that often...

yeah its not really that hard i guess.. just get all of the paint off of the wheel, and then read the instructions on the back of the can (they do a pretty good job telling you how you are suppose to paint) thats how i learned how to paint basically.. along with 8 years of screw-ups and inadequate time before installing the part... i didnt know what patience was, and that is probably the biggest part of painting..

Dude looks good real good, but where did you get the paint from? i know you said the stripper from autozone or what not but did you get the paint there and you used a clear coat on top of them right thnaks

Dupli Color Wheel Paint comes in Bronze Silver Graphite "gunmetal" and black I think? Not so sure on the black though? The wheel paint would be available and Advanced Autoparts or Checker Autoparts etc. The Clear coat is also Dupli Colors Wheel Paint Clear which works amazing!

I didn't have a good experience with that Aircraft Stripper. When I decided to paint my wheels bronze last winter, I decided to strip it first and when I did it, it left the surface very uneven (peaks and valleys all over it). This irritated me because I had already spent so much time just to get the gunmetal paint off only to be left with an undesirable surface.

So one day I just got some sandpaper and went at it. Took a while to smooth everything down but it came out much better then the first time. So all together, I've painted my wheels three times.

3 times? haha your're starting to sound like me, this was my 3rd time as well.. i wont even tell you about the 1st and 2nd time :shhh: .... it looked good from like 20 feet away, but upclose it was bad... but yeah, you almost always have to sand it to make things even, my wheels were extremely rough with all the paint off, felt like shark skin..

Looks good.

I've done the same thing to my GSX rims. It's a pain in the ass.

Is that the stock silver on your car?

The rims almost look smaller in that pic though :notgood: It probably looks better in person but not in that pic (the wheels anyway).

agreed, I think the lip starts to blend with the tire and doesn't contrast like a polished lip.

Same here..I think that's a good idea though as far as matching the color of the car and the CF hood to rims though..

your wheels look really nice. i was thinking about getting a set of those gsx wheels and painting them. hmmmm might have too now

hard to say, i know that it had been in an accident (i think it got t-boned) just because the drivers door is has red paint behind the door panel, the passenger side it silver....so who knows...the front bumper got repainted right before i got it due to a towing company's mistake when putting the car on a dolly, they ended up spidering the paint... so yeah i dont know if it is or not..any way to check? haha the engine bay is all silver... so maybe it just got a new paintjob? dunno...

*SnoopySLR- ironically that picture is my backround as well... well actually the "Active Desktop Recovery" is my background right now haha*

Wow, those wheels look really good on your GSX, I really like them ALOT. I am thinking of doing it on my 5 spokes of my GS. I would really like them to turn out as good as yours did. Before I prep should I use Aircraft stripper and Power wash them. Also what kind of paint do you use I am a newb at this stuff. Thanks

Did you even read the first 10 posts before you bumped a freakin 2 year old thread.

"here's my wheel all cleaned up (aircraft stripper and a pressure washer) "

"the paint is called graphite, i had plasti-kote vehicle paint gunmetal before"

[/RANT]

thanks man, what do you mean better than before? i didn't do a good job? :( ..... haha well i didnt do a good job my 1st and 2nd time, had no idea what prepping was all about, just used a brush and aircraft stripper, and alot of sandpaper, still had spots of old paint sticking up... made me embarrassed to bring my car in anywhere's where they had to take the wheels off, i was waiting for someone to say "hey by the way, who painted your wheels?" i would of say "i did, why?" and they'd laugh and say, "good job buddy :thumb: " and laugh at me, but no one did, so it's behind me now.. i am painting another set now too.... so i came in now for the paint to dry and am ready for a long night again (i already spent 4 hours today pulling my timing belt off, taking my new waterpump off and putting the old one back on, and tensioned it yadda yadda) haven't started it yet though, i don't know why, just something i'll save for tomorrow..i'm out...

Rims and car looks hot man!

P.S. hahhaa i am laughing at the fact that you live in a place called "Moorhead" (more head) LOL. nvm
