Just Bought a TSI AWD! Few ?'s

Hey guys, I just became the proud owner of a 1990 Talon TSI AWD. But I have a few questions. The car is bone stock, except that it had a different engine installed 6 months. After checking out the car I noticed the red valve cover, so i thought it was just painted. But the cover is red, so is it suppossed to be that way? Also, on the cam gears cover it has japanese writing, as well as other parts of the engine. So what kind of motor is this? is it the regular 4G63? Any help will be appreciated guys

is the valve cover painted or powder coated. it could be a jdm motor and some of them may have red valve covers. maby someone else can tell you that who had a jdm motor i have had minimal experiences with jdm motors in dsm's just because i hear that they arn' that much more respectable than what we have. but good luck. i wish i could help you out more.

I would gather that's a JDM motor. What does it say on the VC? Mitsu/DOHC/16 valve?

Believe the JDM's say Mitsu on the top and DOHC on the bottom. Non-JDM say 16 valve on top.

This could mean you have a JDM motor, or a JDM valve cover

Either way, nothing too special.
