So i hate it when dsm meet forums get quiet, so i've decided to share my oh so exciting news with you all.

I am finally after so many years...going to purchase my turbo! Hopefully I can figure out the exhaust situation (which I've been meaning to do, basically since I bought the car) so that I can install it all before the meet. My car is exactly the same as the last meet I went too, but now my driver side door does not open, don't ask me why, cause...GRR!!! It just doesn't, but I did replace my hatch struts, cause the pieces of wood were not cutting it anymore. BTW did anyone know it rises on its own? I sure the hell didn't, it was like freakin' magic, mine NEVER did that, or even stay up all the way.

Okay, so I'm getting the evo III turbo/manifold/o2 housing with new bolts/washers/gaskets...which is more than enough than I'll ever need, it's just that my turbo decided to take a crap on me and doesn't work. Alright, I told my story...hope no one's flaking!

And this year I won't be sharing my car tan line, I got a new funky one from my first day of golfing instead, haha...okie BYE!

if this meet was a little later i might have my turbo setup as well...but i guess ill have to wait for santa cruz. good luck with that install though

I'm going to try, I didn't order it yet, because I'm trying to figure out how to do my exhaust...should I buy a bolt on, then which one should I get? buy the parts and pay a shop to weld it and if I do where's a good local shop?...Too much to decide, and also I'm trying to figure out if I should buy other parts to go with my turbo. I'm getting the evo III turbo/manifold/o2 housing with all new gaskets/bolts/washers. I know I should get new injectors, buy an afc, and install my fuel pump/reg. but I don't have that much money, so I'm deciding what to do. Would it be okay to just get the turbo/exhaust setup and everything else later? I know it won't run as it should, but will it hurt anything?

You'll be much better off safe than sorry and doing it properly rather than slapping on a new turbo and finding out you need other mods to make it run properly.

The e316g is notorious for boost creep and free'ing up the exhaust doesn't help matters. Porting it does help though. You can try to run the e316g at low boost but what if it doesn't want to hold there? Without an afc/logger/injectors you will run the risk of running lean.

If you do decide to install the new turbo, you need to get some data logs also to make sure the timing/knock is good and to fine tune fueling.

I think it would be best to hold off, save a little more and do it right. You should never be in a rush to modify your car. :dsm:

She said she is buying an o2 housing which would eliminate the creep issue. Dorene you can just buy a bolt on exhuast and be done with it. If you buy a tubular o2(which you can find for cheap now a days then most will say before you buy it, if it will bolt up or not. If you run the evo3 o2 you can run any exhaust you would before but you might have to slot the bolt holes on the dp slightly. If I were to do it I would get the apex turbo back and be done with it. YOu can usually find great deals on the turbo back if you search the net.

I got a friend that has his stock 2g manifold. I'll ask him for you.

Thanks luis, its crazy how fast my manifold sold. I put it up and within 6 hours I have about 25 emails from people but local guys take priority so its going to sean(96whgsx).

So you part it out (The turbo setup) Turbonetics manifold is a popular manifold but still expensive new ~$450. Can't wait for your new setup Zach, sleeper mode for sure :thumb:

Okie, since you guys are all being so nice and helpful, I have a new question about my project...

I'm buying my downpipe and high flow cat from RRE (http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclexhaust.htm), this will directly fit my evo III o2 housing. Now I need to find a catback system, Zach I believe suggested the Apex'i catback, which is nice, but I really want to keep the dual tips look, instead of the 4.5" tip that comes with this system.

Here's a picture of what it looks like now (yea I used myspace to upload the pic, LOL)

http://www.mypimpspace.com/upload/uploads4/VkiNNLsH.jpg

Of course it will be a little more umm...straight, haha, as well as larger in diameter.

So any clue as to what I should do? Could I just take it to a muffler shop and have them do my catback, or should i just chop the end off of the apex'i system?

If you want somethign with dual tips I would just take it someplace and have them make you a cat-back. No sense in buying a 350$+ exhaust just to chop off the bulk of the cost and weld on a new muffler. Just find a muffler you like and take it to an exhaust shop. have them make it in 3" since almost no exhaust shop has a mandrel bender and they are going to have to press bend everything.

Okay, this is going to sound crazy, but umm...could I install everything from the exhaust manifold to the end of the cat and leave it like that for a day or two? Since it's my only car, just in case it takes me a while to install it all and take it to a muffler shop?

Ya I used to drive around with open dp(no cat) all the tiem. Just take it easy by cops and you'll be good to go. Hell I even drove around with pretty much just an o2 housing for a couple days untill my exhaust flanges came in.

YAY! I am so freakin excited...I have officially ordered and paid for my project (minus the catback). My new hobby will be checking the mail, haha.

its so much fun, some times I just look for cheap shit to buy just for the joy of getting it. I got a 30 dollar short shifter on the way, and I was thinking about picking up some poly motor mounts. anyone know a cheap place for motor mounts?
