Its official my fellow DSM'rs, MOD 06's has been announced

Bah. Last year's evo-love pissed me off. Doubly so when they dumped the rest of the Evo names into the general prize drawing bucket.

I mean, hell. Any of us could have sold that under-blade to an Evo guy and picked up parts good for at least 20 more horsepower. :b 50 if they were a *typical* evo owner.


Already on it, pulling the head today and praying real damn hard that it isn't cracked or blown out. Applying pressure to the coolant system makes a very pretty waterfall start pouring out runner #1. Anyone have a spare head they'd be willing to let go, so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping on one of the $130 specials from BFE? While it's off, might as well go for upgraded springs and retainers, and I've had the new lifters on the shelf for a few months now. Plus ARP headstuds, and ANOTHER new metal headgasket, if I can't re-use the four-layer.

If it's repairably blown, may just build the head a bit. Springs, retainers, cams, lifters, maybe even overbore the valves while it's off. Would be kinda funny to put together a head that'd be good up to 9500rpm with a set of MAD double springs and titanium retainers, and slap it back on a 99% stock block.

Matan, my phone's screen is broken, so I don't have anyone's numbers. Give me a call, we may need to discuss a few other upgrades. All pending on how bad off the head is, of course.
But if I'm going to dip into my safety net, I'm going to make sure I'll be damn happy with the car until I get the cash together for the next time it breaks.

I hope they plan on following up with a MOD at the Normal, IL plant. I've set my sights on that instead of the Shoot-Out.

i can really care less how far people have to travel. With my schedule i have work from 8:00-5:30 M-F and ill be in class from 7:00-10:00 M-F. Everyone has different priorities and waking up at 6:30 on my day off to go drive past my destination (MOD) just to cruise back to MOD is just a waste of gas and sleep for me. I mean the cruise is just gonna end up in the parking lot where everyone else is going to be, im not missing the meet.

Had no idea it was that much of a PITA to pull a head. Jeez... should be off tomorrow morning though, and over to the machine shop to figure out what went wrong.

As a side note, the car sounds incredibly angry running without an exhaust manifold. Scared the living crap out of a Honda with a fart can when I had to start it up and move it, to free up the lift it had been sitting on. I should have gotten a sound clip.

Also, on the up side the bolt I thought had been frozen/welded into the exhaust housing came out cleanly, so I can use all four of my shiny new turbo bolts.
Er... does anyone know if we're supposed to use any kind of washers on those bolts? I kinda want to use a set of lockwashers and regular washers under each one to try to keep them from backing out, but I remember someone telling me that it wouldn't help, and would just make the problem worse. Bueller?

There are washers on those bolts from the factory. I know because I was just at the dealer a few months ago and bought 4 new bolts and 4 new washers straight from the stealership. I think it was around $50!!!

Back on topic, I hope I can make it this year...just got my car finished so I should have plenty of time before the event to get some more goodies installed.

Thanks for that, I'll have to see if I can find some that'll fit and won't like... melt. Time to dig out the manuals. On a side note, RRE sells the bolts themselves for $8 a pop.

Hopefully the machine shop won't have dragged ass over the weekend, and I'll be set to pick up some ARP headstuds to be on the safe side. Still debating if I can afford the $260 RRE wants for crower springs and retainers. Anyone able to source 'em cheaper, local?

Ah well. Even if they did drag ass, I've got a crapload to do tomorrow. Decided to go ahead with the handling mods, and leave the cams until I'm ready to step up at least to a 20G. Meaning I get to run around everywhere grabbing the calipers, rotors, pads, rear swaybar, rear STB, SS brake and clutch lines, and a set of speed bleeders, then get started on installing everything.

Crap. Apparently my head had a manufacturing defect. Tiny hole in the #4 exhaust port that's leaking water everywhere. PitStop wants $300 for a new head... anyone down here have a spare head core they'd be willing to let go for cheaper? Machine shop's refusing to just weld the hole shut... guessing they don't have an aluminum welder.
