I'm looking at buying A 91 Talon from a guy in the area. He converted the frontend to a 92-94 which is what I want. He wants 2500 o.b.o. What do you think is a fair price, and what should I look for/ask him before I go out and look at it with my brother (mechanic). I plan to get it Tuesday after work and have it done by Friday (I only work weekends).

This is an email he just sent me
"Hows it going, I still have the 91' Talon, It's got every available option. The way it sits, I wont lie to you, its not a show car. it will start up but I wouldn't suggest driving it home till you get tires and brakes( just one faulty line behind intake manifold) I've got ninty-million extra parts for it, they come with it. I took the fenders headlights, hood, and brackets off a "93 to convert the headlights. What it will need to be perfect: Change diff in tranny(i'm giving you good tranny to swap in), new tires(has 17" Racing Harts), Brake line fix, reinstall drive shaft, needs a Cd player or something, has small crack on back bumper($30 bucks at junkyard). Good stuff: 16g, 3" turbo back exhaust, timer, gauge, fuel pump, recently installed red-top JDM motor, with exedy clutch. New external oil cooler, alternater, belts, ported o2 housing and exhast manifold."

This was the add he had 2 cars for sale i'm assuming this was the car he raced around in and the other was the showcar.
"Also have a 91'eagle talon awd turbo, converted to a 92'front end has new jdm motor with big 16g 3"exhaust boost controller, ,boost gauge and 17" rims. has a rattle can paint job, no dents, and fairly new tan leather interior. --needs a new brake line, serpintine belts, and tires to be perfect. also the drive shaft is out of the car, the transmission needs to be swaped, you get new tranny with price $2500 o.b.o"

forgot to mention the body has 130000 miles on it, and the engine is supposed to have about 0 on it.

I don't know about that, you should be careful. You can always take it to a reputable dealer and have them check it out.

It's kindof weird that the body would have over 100k and the motor has no miles. Doesn't seem right to rebuild a entire motor just to sell it. Something smells funky to me.

Unless it's just a good deal and he just wants to get rid of it. Throw a new tranny in there and it should be a fun car!

He seems legit, but that's whay I'm taking my brother with me. He's one heck of a mechanic!
I just need to know what a fair price would be. The blue book for a car with every option is $1925 or something, but that's for a stock car. I'm gonna have to rent a flatbed to get it home, get a new brake line, put the tranny in, get new tires, and later on repaint it. He said he's giveing me tons of parts to go with it so I'm assuming he's just getting out of dsm or switching hobbies.

Just talked to the guy. It does have abs, sun roof, tan leather interior... ha also said the brake problem isn't the lines. When ever he fills it up and then bleeds it a few minutes latter the brake fluid starts leaking out around the intake manifold but I could be wrong I don't remeber exactly. I just need to know what a fair price is. I don't wanna sit there haggling all day. I don't wanna get taken and I don't want him to feel like he's being taken.
