A local is selling a 1980 GS750L that needs a bit of work. His asking price is currently $500 and I'm wondering if this is reasonable for the condition of the bike. I wrench myself, so this shouldn't be too tricky.
I heard these things are bullet-proof.

I was looking more for a GS550 or smaller since I'm new to bikes, but I'm pretty responsible. For now, it would spend most of it's life getting me to and from my college classes (3 miles each way) or to work (only 1 mile each way).
So what are your opinions on this? What should I really look at if I go and take a peek. It's a 2hr drive to see it, so I can't be making multiple trips.

I have an 1980 Suzuki GS750 for $500 OBO, does need some work. The reason I'm selling is due to I lost my job and don't have the money that is needed to finish repairing. I have over $800 in the bike so I'm just trying to recoup some of my money. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will answer them, but I do have the title in hand. Here is a list of things that have been done to the bike so far and a list of stuff that still need to be done in order for it to be up and running.
1. This is a list of things that have been done to the bike so far.
a. Changed the oil, checked for pressure
b. Replaced rear shocks, correctly mounted rear fender rack set up, checked rear wiring fixed as needed.
c. Cleaned and repaired rear brake. Bled rear brake.
d. Checked starter, and ignition wiring. Including ensuring proper coil powering and timing plate response.
e. Checked cylinder pressure, all good.
g. Checked wiring for damage, fixed as needed.
h. Checked carburetors condition. Bowls, checked jets, checked floats.
i. Cleaned gas tank. Checked for damage. cleaned pet cocks. Tank okay.
j. Checked valve train for problems.
2.The list of things that still need to be done.
a. Rebuild front brake calipers and brake lever.
b. Install CDI box
c. carburetors despite being clean, may need balanced when started.
d. Make sure stator is charging correctly.
e. fit side covers and missing body pieces.
f. fit turn signals, and need headlight retention ring.
g. replace chain.
3. List of parts that will go with the bike.
a. New battery still in the box.
b. Side covers
c. Air box covers
d. Turn signals
e. CDI box (Which I don't know if it will work or not due to looking like the plastic have been melted)
Just know that after doing all this there still might be a few things that need done to the bike. So if you are someone who like the old Suzuki GS bike and like working on them then this would make a good project bike.
