Is there a way to check piston rings with the block out of the car?

i bought a block and i want to check what kind of shape the rings are in before i put it in the car... is there a way to check em out, i really dont wanna install the motor just to find out a cylinder or 2 isnt getting full compression...

How many miles are on the rotating assembly? If it is enough then I would probably go ahead and replace all the bearings and the rings. But thats just me and you never know what kind of shape things are in.

You'd need to bolt a head on to do a compression or leakdown test. At least it'll be easy to tell where it's coming from out of car.

But, like moparmadd said, I'd recommend new rings anyway if you don't know the mileage. Also lap your valves. Cheap insurance.

its got 5k miles on it and looks to be in great shape... i just want to make sure...

but ya i have a rebuilt head sitting right next to it ready to be put in the car, ill just bolt it on then and leak down test it
