Sorry about another exhaust question. I'm looking for a dual tip cat back exhaust system other than stock that isn't much louder. I was looking at the thermal systems but it says it's for a more aggressive built vehicle and my vehicle is mostly stock. Could it work for my vehicle? Is there other exhaust system that has the dual tip or not? Thank you for your answer.

I found that muffler for 81 shipped on ebay. It shouldnt be much at all to have welded on. I think Im going to order it up. What are your opinions on tips? tips or no tips, and if tips, what kind of tips? :p
...I know this thread is three months old, but have a question and would hate to start a new thread about the same topic.

I have been thinking about replacing my N1 Muffler with the Magnaflow pictured above #12198. Paint it black and then weld on some stainless steel tips. I have similiar questions as others have already asked and have not yet been answered. Here are my questions:

(1) I know some have used #12198 with the 14" body, but what about the 18" or 24" body (#12288 and #12388, respectively)? Looks like there might be a little more room if someone wanted to go with a longer body, but still 5x8".

(2) What is everyone doing for tips? All are 5" are longer. Is everyone cutting these down before welding them on? If so, what length? Also, most stainless steel tips with 2.5" ID have 3.5" or larger exit. I have found one tip from Borla that is 2.5" ID and 2.5" Outlet. But it is intercooled, I do not know if that really has any effect and what that effect would be? And they are pricey for just tips. Then I have seen some resonated tips on eBay. Again, I do not know how/if the "resonated tip" would effect anything?

(3) There are many more options for 2.25" ID stainless steel tips. Would it be unwise to get the Magnaflow with the 3"in/dual 2.25"out muffler, which is an 18" body (#12278)? The cross sectional area of the dual 2.25" outlets should still be greater than 3" inlet.

Basically, looking to put a single in/dual exit Magnaflow muffler on my awd 2g with an existing 3" exhaust and want to know the best way to go about doing it. Pics and links with answers would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT:

Well, had to change two rear wheel studs and took a quick measurement of the existing Apex'i N1 Muffler. The body is approximately 14" long and the tip is approximately 5" long. No real room for a longer body, unless mounted on some real good angles. The tip is just about the right size to keep the body behind the bumper and the tip pretty flush with the outside of the bumper. So that would make me believe that Magnaflow #12198 would be the proper size.

I then called Magnaflow to try and figure out what I can do for tips. They only carry really one tip that might work, Magnaflow #35136, 2.5" ID, 4" outlet, and 5" long. Which would be perfect, but if mounted on the 12198 muffler they will interfere with each other. Because the centers of outlets on the muffler are 4" apart.

Think I am going to give up on the whole dual muffler and go with this Magnaflow Muffler #14819, 5x8" body, 3" inlet straight-through, 4" double walled tip, all polished stainless steel. To me looks kinda similiar to what the newer sports car's oem mufflers (minus the 4" tip, most are a bit smaller).
