Is it true that 4g63's arent worth getting built?

I would definately choose a different shop. They're not going to offer any sort of warranty on a $4K engine build just go somewhere else. These are robust engines and can handle a lot of power, the unreliability part always irked me. Ignorant people always comment to me on how unreliable my 4G63 is compared to some other engine... It's such a crock, keep in mind these engines are usually built in someone garage to handle waaaay to much boost and fuel the factory ever imagined so of course they'll blow faster than your average intake and 4-1 equipped B18 LOL

yeah sorry about that ive been asleep.

2gdsm_nc do they build 2.3 strokers?

to blacksburg that looks like a good place but winchester is a real long way away. Have you hads yours built anywhwere?

Thanks everyone for the opinions, i guess i'll just take my motor somewhere else. I was just tryin to make sure i wasn't gonna waste my money getting a 6 bolt built.

2.3 I don't see why not they've built a 2.0 for me and now doing my current 2.4( well in pieces, bottom end done waiting on doing the top) $$$ low. A 2.3 is only a mix of pistons, and crank.

my only question is what are you looking for a completely built short block w/nothing supplied by you or you supply the parts and they machine/fit them, if it is the first option I would go will a completed sb from maybe one of the sponsors of this sight!

If the latter I got a pretty good hook up on motors say a 7 bolt 64 'know of 4' complete motor for 100 you pick up and sonata 6 bolts for 200 'know of 2'. pm if you want to know of the 2 places locally that have them. Sad thing is last year the yard I get most of my parts from crushed 3 sonata 2.4 6 bolt engines. you should have seen my face! needless to say they now know me as the guy who is looking for mits motors!

hahaha Red Turbo you got this right! Bring him the issue of the castrol syntec challenge where the EVO 4G63 made just over 1000WHP on 100-octane street legal fuel! These engines are plain sick! I gave up my 240SX with an SR20DET to get this car, and what a difference! Go and find a real good machine shop. Oh and Ford engines aren't bad, other than the block breaking at over 500HP, believe me I know, i had a 351 Windsor punched to 427 in my 1983 Truck, and guess what happened, split the engine block! Print this thread and bring it to this so-called machinist!

I just wanna know what machine shop owner has his wife working there :D What a tool. Im sure she has been grindin engines an layin sheet rock. Word of advice dont take a 4 cyl to a shop where they only know how to work on stuff from circa 1970. You said they work on all engines, did they have any bmw v12 engines laying around because the shop i go to does. Just a thought. I have 2 complete engine rebuilds where i had the shops do the machining and i checked the specs, assembled and they both run. One has seen 35 lbs max and 30 daily the other 20lbs. Im not one special just some jack who can read a repair book and ask friends questions.

Better yet have them go look at this site about interference engines
Timing Belts: Is Your Engine an Interference Engine?

Yeah porsches, bmws, are junk too LOL I do think I saw some domestic names in there too.
Just find a respectable shop... or do it yourself.

Besides even performance V8s you have to check valve to piston clearances or sparkplug clearances.
Aluminum rods well they grow so you have to know how much room is in there. anyone do the playdo trick? I helped build a chevy that was so tight we had to clip off the sparkplug end and set the gap clearance on the side.
So this mom and pop shop aren't qualified to be messing with your engine.

My motors been through three cars making over 600whp for over 4 years now

Has had two owners and runs perfectly fine!

Built eagle/weisco
