Someone said that the running problem with my talon could be a jumped tooth on the t-belt, but it still runs and idles, just not well....

well, ill tell you what, you probably wont get much for that car if the timing jumped.... especially not a 300zx. :shhh:

My friend's laser jumped 5 teeth on the crank pulley and he could still drive it around but it didn't run that well obviously.

Well according to the dealership it cant just slip a tooth, espesialy when the timing belt was done 7k miles ago, someone had just brought it up and i have never heard of it before. Just wondering if its possable. And i dont see how a motor could run on bent valves, the compression on this car was good all across the board. The dealership is going all through it wednesday for full repairs, so i will know then.

Yes.. a DSM will run with the timing belt off one tooth... I had a 91 TSI FWD and after changeing the timing belt.. it would run but would idle really rough. but while moving it didnt miss or anything. just felt really sluggish. just spit and spudder while idleing.. Id have the devil check the timing belt alignment. Mine was off one tooth on the exhaust cam gear. after i took it back apart and retimed it. it ran like a champ no problems at all

Not "slip". "Jump".

If it started with the belt job, the shop got it wrong.

Take a look at the T-Belt VFAQ at all the steps needed to ensure that the belts tension is correctly set and say to yourself.. do all shops take the care to do this right?

I've been running fine with both cams off a tooth for nearly 4 years (noticed during a recent upgrade).. and I had it done by a "Reputable" DSM Shop

If you do find yours is off.. make sure to do a leakdown test. I've heard people that ended up with slightly bent valves from this (again running normally).
