Intermittent bogging only when reving (fine when I let it idle for a while)

Alright, I give up. I have been searching for this problem for a week and trial and error isn't cutting it.

Let me preface this by saying that I have a 95 gst with a keydiver chip for a 97, so the cas is inverted. So, I had to swap my injector plug order just to get it right. Still doesn't make sense the way I hooked it up because I swapped 1 with 2 and 3 with 4. According to the rre diagram, I should have swapped it around in a much different order, but this is the only way that it won't skip and run rough.

So when I crank the engine, it will start fine and idle fine all day long. As soon as I rev it up for more than a few seconds, it will start to bog really bad and want to die. If I start it back up, it will run choppy for a few minutes (I assume because the plugs are being fouled out) and so after a few minutes, the car will idle fine again.

So if I let the car recover from bogging, idle will be fine until I gas it up again, then after about 5 seconds of holding the throttle, it will start to bog again and fall on its face.

I managed to test drive it in this condition and found that it is intermittent when I drive the car. It would run choppy, so I would let the engine slow it down. Then, after a few seconds, it felt good so I went to wot (at 10 psi) and it ran surprisingly well.

Now, I replaced the plugs and wires again. No luck. Swapped out the coil pack, no luck. I have been wondering if a bad cas or cps or possibly ptu could be causing this problem. I was really thinking about just putting a 1g cas in there since I've read that the hall effect sensors are unreliable.

I am stumped. I am at the point where I may have to buy a multimeter (I don't have one anymore) and start pulling sensors out to contrast the difference in performance.

Any Ideas?

Have you checked for boost / vacuum leaks? Have you checked base ignition timing (with a timing light)?

O2 sensors? Coolant temp sensors?

haven't checked any sensors yet. It seems like it's an ignition issue. I am going to check the plugs in a few minutes to see how they look. They are brand new, so I should get a good idea of whats going on just by looking at them. I was thinking that it may be the power transistor unit, but I am going to double check all of my connections first. Vacuum gauge reads a solid 18 hg.

hmm, well I checked the plugs and they are all fouled out. so now I will check the connections to the mas and the power transistor. I will check back when that is done.

Well, I drove it for a while last night. It only sputtered on me once after playing with the connections, and when it did, I shut the key off really fast and turned it back on. That fixed it for the time being.

The problem is that it used to do that same thing when I had my old engine in it. It used to get a code for random misfire in cylinder number 3, so it would feel like it was running on two cylinders, and I would have to shut the key off and turn it back on really fast. I think it maybe the crank position sensor, but I wouldn't know how to test it. I am thinking of putting in my 1g cas, but the one I have doesn't have a pigtail, so I would have to find a harness at a junkyard and cut it off.

Anyway, I will report back when I have more information on this. Thanks guys.
