Anyone change their interiors to black by using paint? How is it holding up after a few months, especially from the summer sun?

My car has a gray interior and I definitely want to change the floor carpet to black with black floor mats. Also need to replace the headliner but I will stick with gray. I like anything above the dash gray, and everything below black. Similar to how my new Acura TL is.

But as far as the console, dash, and door panels go, not sure how it'll come out after some heat.

I'm in the middle of doing mine with SEM Landau black paint. Make sure you prep everything properly with a good plastic cleaner, and on hard plastic trim pieces make sure you scuff them with a red scotch-brite pad, and I would recommend using their adhesion promotor

I guess my biggest fear would be the paint becoming sticky. Do you recommend applying clear coat over? I'm not so worried about scratches as it being sticky or peeling off. Scratches can be repaired for the most part.

With the SEM you don't need a clear. Within a day of doing my dash it cured and felt just like an oem black dash.

nice, i just ordered their stuff. We'll see how it goes. I'll start with the trunk panels first.

Once I get my interior done, i'll work on replacing the front and rear bumper, headlights, and rear wing to the 97-99 style from 95-96. Then i'll have a semi-restored Eclipse GS-T :)

Especially since I just replaced the entire suspension, and over the winter I'll be rebuilding the motor. It'll be like driving a new car again. Next summer I might even do an exterior paint job!

So what did you do about the seatbelts? Iam about to change to black but i am having a hard time finding black seatbelts.

I'm going to be pulling the seatbelts out, extending them as far as I can and then just soaking them in black fabric dye when I do my carpet. I'll be using the sem paint for any plastic bits.

I noticed that cars with black interiors had a lot of gray panels, including gray seatbelts. I ran through a couple VIN's with black interiors and they all came thru with gray seatbelts, headliner, floor carpeting, etc. Only the dash, center console, door panels, and rear lower qtr panels were black. Everything else is gray.

I'm also on the lookout, I'll let you all know what I find.

I think there is a whole bunch of cars that these belts can come from. Stratus, seebring coupe, talon, I am going to research and post my findings.

I refinish for a living and I was thinking the buckles on the male and female sides would not fair very well with paint even prepped properly. This sounds kinda ghetto but maybe magic marker on the high wear buckles??

I was thinking about doing my interior using plastidip for the matte look. Do you guys think is a good idea or should I use SEM paint? I just want the interiors to look matte close to stock black interiors.

They never made a 2nd generation with a full black interior, I believe even the lower dash was grey on all.

I'v heard of people doing that, not sure how it turned out thought. There was a thread on he a while back about it, maybe try searching for threads about interior and see what your can find. The pitures that I saw looked nice, just not sure how it held up.

I will try the plastidip to see how it goes and ill keep an eye on this thread to see how everything looks with the SEM paint.

99 Special Edition GS has all black interior.

i did my whole interior black before. use FLAT BLACK paint only though. It actually makes it look as if it came from the factory like that. gloss black looks to goofy for me

Personally I have no experience with gloss black but here is my dash with SEM Landau Black and there Low Luster Clear. Everything I did was with SEM stuff, only problem I had was with my door panels and that was because I did a crappy job prepping them.

Looks like factory.

Why not buy a used black interior, that'll last for sure, and people do have them for sale.

Trying to find one is a pain plus for me, shipping would freaking suck. The second a big item crosses water the price jumps.

Yeah no worries, I feel your pain. I'm in Canada too :p. I meant for the OP, New Jersey has tons of part outs these days.
