I installed my intake about a week ago and my check engine light came on about an hour ago. I went to advance auto parts and it came back fuel trim malfunction (bank 1). I've been reading up on it and notice it came be anything from a MAF or O2 sensor to fuel injectors, to a exhaust manifold leak. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about it and since I just installed a hard pipe and high flow filter if it would narrow the root of the problem. What do you think?

So all you did was install a hard pipe in the intanke. (Before the turbo?)

Like MAttspyder said: make sure it is conected. But seems to be the Mas. Try a friend's MAs just for test it and see what happens....

I can't really think of why a new intake would make your car throw that code, but here goes... Did you by chance get one of those intakes without a recirculation port, which in turn is causing you to vent your BOV to atmosphere? Could it be that your post-maf connections are loose, causing un-metered air to enter your system? That would definitely screw with your air/fuel mixture (cause a lean condition) and possibly throw a code such as that. Other than that, an intake install seems pretty straightforward and I couldn't see it messing with anything else.

The hard pipe I bought has the recirculation tube and the 3 other tubes so its basically a hard pipe version of the stock rubber pipe. By the way, what are those other 3 tubes for?? I had to splice the tube that runs from the pipe to under the battery because I couldn't remove it, but everything is air tight and secure. All of the couplers are secure and the worm clamps are tight, although cheaply made. I'm don't know what it could be. If it was a bad MAF sensor or a bad 02 sensor, wouldn't it throw a code that says that?? What code does it throw if I have a bad fuel injector? I need to find out soon b/c my gas mileage is HORRIBLE.

I'm guessing it's either the MAF or 02 sensor, so I'm going to replace them both. Should I got with Mitsubishi parts or what? Where is the front 02 sensor located? Thats the before catalyst sensor right?

My car recently through the same code, however, my car when you go to accelerate sputters and has nearly no power... however my car also threw a engine idel malf. code... what could be causing this? thanks

I had the same trouble code, but i had a A/F gauge and that stopped working the same time the check engine light came on. So i two and two together replaced the front 02 sensor and never got the code again.

The reason the check engine light went on is because your car is not used to the amount of air comming in from the new intake. The easiest way to fix this is just reset the battery and let it idle for about 3-5 minutes after you reconnect the battery. After that the check engine light will be off and everything will be running better.

The fuel trim code means that the ECU has had to adjust the fuel trims over the amount it is comfortable with. Without a datalogger to check on the fuel trims we won't have a really good idea of what's going on, but if your gas mileage is bad that means it's adding way more fuel than usual. If I had to guess I'd say you have a leak after the MAS. A clogged injector could also be causing this. Pull your plugs and see if one of them is really white. That would indicate a lean condition in that cyclinder. If they're all black, then it is possible that the O2 sensor is dying. A datalogger would be able to show the O2 sensor voltage to help determine whether or not it's cycling like it should be.

I have the same code on my car right now, i tried switching out the mass, but that didn't seem to be the problem. I should be getting 550's and changing out the o2 sensors within this week so i'll keep you posted on which one of the two fixes my problem.

I got the same code and didnt know what the hell it is. I also have a a/f guage and it has been on lean for like amonth but the car runs fine because the plugs are tan like they should be. But i was just thinking that maybe it could be my O2 sensor because if I have it in 5th and let of the gas completly it will kinda sputter. WHat could my problem be? O2?

Replace your front O2 sensor.

OK, I was gonna do that but just thought id double check, also my speedo jumps all around, is it a bad sensor or what?

A guy came in with this same code on his car we just cleaned his maf sensor and it fixed his problem, his car had bad idle and bad gas mileage from what he told us.
