How extensive is this project? I have a stock 99 Eclipse GS (No-Turbo) 420a (Non-Spyder, They didnt have that option when I made this account). and I am wanting to install the turbo. I am wanting to do it myself. so i don't want to spend the 3 grand to get it professionally done. I have been looking at the Hahns 16g Turbo Kit and I am really interested in it, Alot of good reviews.

I realize before I go flooring my pedal I will need new Injectors and fuel pump to keep up with the turbo. and I don't plan on maxing out the boost or anything like that right away. I want to install it and take it easy until i get everything I need.

So thats where I need help. I mainly just need to know absolutely everything I need so it does not ruin my car. and keep in mind, I am not going to be racing the engine yet, just basic driving. Racing will be way later down the road. Do I need a new ECU? and what else?

Thanks in advanced for all your help =)

WOW, you have no idea what your asking. It would take alot of the people on here to spend alot of time to give you the answer your looking for. Lucky for you most of what your looking for is already here. All you have to do is read it.

here's an example

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...uild-420a-stage-2-turbo-kit-under-1000-a.html

Found that here

I did that in about a minute. There's so much info here you can literally spend days reading. And you should. No better way to do what you want then to learn everything you can first. That way you can make informed decisions and not rely on others methods which are sometimes great and others not so much.

Or, you can just sell yours and buy a turbo car. That's way easier.

Good luck and let everyone know how your doing.

hey. i started using this form back ago, up on the top there is a thing that says enter key words. type in 420a turbo. etc.. any who

1. go over your engine. check compression in all 4 cylinders. do all maintenance. fix all the stuff thats in bad shape
2.figure out your tuning. Megasquirt or portfuler
3.decide how much psi your looking for and goals your looking at. stock pistons will see 6-8psi. after that your gonna need to rebuild the bottom end

hope that helped a little

Go ahead and do it right. Get forged internals, coated acl's, have the head redone. MLS hg, arp studs where needed etc. etc.. Then MSnS is problably the cheapest and best tuning soluting from what i remember of 420aTurbo stuff.

You are exactly right. This isn't the most complicated thing in the world but you REALLY need to ask yourself if you think it's worth your time. It's going to be a long some what complex process for very little gain before you have to go and build your motor for more power. In the end you could get a GST or GSX for less effort and about the same amount. If you don't have a DD already besides your GS you have to take into account the extra down time because of having a turbo car.

However, if you want to turbo it because it's rarely done and it's a fun project all I can say is good luck and I hope you get what you want out of it. :thumb:

Pretty much what everyone else said. Just keep in mind that if you do turbo your stock 420a you are fairly limited as far as hp goes. IMHO you should do way more research so you really know what your getting yourself into. Right now you have a good looking and reliable daily driver. If it were me I would either keep it stock and reliable or do a complete build ie. forged internals etc..

Best advice I can give you is that you should do 2 hours of research for every hour you work on the car. This site has a plethora of information so take advantage of it.

Good luck and happy boosting.

exactly what everyone said, research ALOT, its a lot of time and money. your gonna end up like me soon and a bunch of people that just keep putting stuff into our 420a to make them faster. i honestly should have bought a gst or gsx but hey might as well be unique and have a built 420a with lowww miles

As others have stated you should do research on your car and the different options you have. You should also Pm a moderator to change the car in your profile from spyder gs which is a 4g64 engine to 99 eclipse gs which is a 420a Chrysler engine. People already confuse the two engines and could cause problems later on down the line when you seek out further build information and want specific parts and such.

Agree with the above statements. You really need to take into account your long term goals, not short term. Installing a turbo is an exciting idea, however, hp is addictive and youre going to eventually push your system to its limits. Depending on the mileage of your motor, and going with the thought that your not wanting to aqcuire as GST or GSX which will make your solution much easier, your better off looking into a motor rebuild to accomodate your turbo project. Nothing worse then spending a 1-2k on a diy turbo kit to have your head or engine blow. Not too mention that installing the turbo kit is half the battle, the next mentally challengin concept is tuning; so your going to have to take into account the additional budget to have the tuning done by a shop or the cost of the software and materials to tune the car yourself. In the end, if this is your DD, expect alot of downtime since this is going to be a big learning curve.
