in need of new engine fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, to make a long story short , my timing belt went on me and my engine is totally screwed. and think im better of getting a new , used or rebuilt engine. but i have no idea where to start. can i have some help please. i live in the orange county , new york area i have 1998 eagle talon tsi awd auto

If your timing belt went, then you might me able to get away with just replacing the head, and not the whole engine. I don't see why the whole engine would need replacing, just all those bent valves.

I believe the 4G63's are interference engines, so if the timing belt did break, than the valves probably hit the pistons, dimpling them. If you're lucky, this didn't happen, but its a possibility.

If you're a competent mechanic, remove the head and inspect the pistons. Otherwise, you may as well replace the whole engine.

Mitsubishigraveyard.com and eBay.com would be good places to start. Just e-mail the guys at Mitsu graveyard, or search for "eclipse engine" or "4G63" at eBay.

Now if you need it installed, thats a different story. You'll need to start looking for a local shop - sorry, can't help ya there.

Yes they are interference engines, I've just never had piston damage as a result of a broken timing belt. Bent valves yes, but maybe I'm just lucky.

theyll always have little marks on the pistons,it just depends on how bad they are.turbo pistons are pretty stong,and ive seen them after a valve crash,they seem to take it pretty well.

Depends on the piston velocity at the time of the belt break. I've seen them shatter. Most of the time though, they're perfectly fine.
