Hey everyone, I am a proud new owner of a 1995 eclipse gst. I work at a car dealer ship and I had one one the mechanics do a compression test after i drove the car around for about 10 Min's so the engine was nice and warm. Sadly my results were Cylinder #1-120psi, #2-120psi, #3-118psi, #4-85psi. So i was wondering if anyone new of any good machine shops that deals with alot of eclipse's in Mayland. I also was wondering what would cause such a dramtic drop in cylinder #4?

i may be wrong but i was told one time that cylinder #4 usually and almost always has the lowest comprestion because a flat spot occures due to the cold spot in the engine since it is clost to the waterneck. quoted from a machine shop out of hayward california. the only thing i dont understand about that is i thought you wanted the engine to be cool. and if thats so then why would one of the coolest spots in the block creat the most wear on the rings.

well when i talked to mechanic he said your compression results are better when the engine is warm. I forgot to ask him why, but is any one from Maryland that recommends a machines shop for my rebuild?

im suspecting that comprestion is better because of expansion and also something to do with the cylinder walls being oiled. when my friend got her 97 gst rebuilt the compresion was slightley low but the mechanic said that was normal. then once break in was done she checked it again for the hell of it. 180 across the board

Ya when i talked to him again thats what he said thanks though. How much did that rebuild cost her and how many miles did she drive to break the car in? Thanks for the info

Depends what kind of rebuild you're going for. You could either do a stock one or build up some of the engine parts.
