Hey guys, cylinders 1 and 4 are misfiring... think i need a new ignition coil?
What leads you to believe that the coil is the problem?
If we had some idea what you have done to diagnose the problem it would save time and improve the advice.

How did you also come to the conclusion its cylinder 1 and 4? do you have a logger? and also like *STEVE* said more info on the subject like if it is under boost or at all times or just exceleration.. also im in NJ and would be willing to help out in person if you need it, it may not be a misfire per say it could be anything from a boost leak to a faulty egr unless of course you see it arcing or like said, have a logger

i'm just guessing but since i'm having similar problems theres two coils coil one has spark plug wires to cylenders 1 and 4 and coil two has wires to cyl 2 and 3

i have the same problem my GSX misfired/bogged when it was running
or when i even tried to drive it so i changed the plugs and it was ok
but after i drove for a little bit stoped the car and drove again it now does what
his does and missfires/bogs when i give it about 75% throttle

You can test the coil pack very easily;

Primary Coil Resistance
Measure the resistance between connector terminal 3 (power)
and each coil terminal.
Measuring point:
No. 1 - No. 4 cylinder side coil; 2-3
No. 2 - No. 3 cylinder side coil; 1-3
Standard value: 0.70 - 0.86 Ohm

Secondary Coil Resistance
Measure the resistance between coil high Voltage terminals.
Measuring point:
No. 1 - No. 4 cylinder side coil; A
No. 2 - No. 3 cylinder side coil; B
Standard value: 11.3 - 15.3 K Ohm

I had a similar problem, where cylinders 1 and 4 werent firing properly under any condition. So I tested the coil pack and found that the primary coils were waay out of spec, I got 1.1 and 1.2 ohms.

What did you do to fix it?

And can you give us more information on how to properly test the coils

To fix it I will be buying a new coil pack from Mitsu when they open again on Monday.:thumb:

To test it all you need is an Ohmmeter or a Multimeter.

-Testing the Primary Coil:

1) Measure the resistance between prong #3 and prong #1. It should read between 0.7 and 0.86 ohms.

2) Measure the resistance between prong #3 and prong #2. It should read between 0.7 and 0.86 ohms.

-Testing the Secondary Coil:

1) Measure the resistance between the terminal on the coil pack for cylinder 1 and the terminal for cylinder 4. It should read between 11.3 and 15.3 K Ohms.

2) Measure the resistance between the terminal on the coil pack for cylinder 2 and the terminal for cylinder 3. It should read between 11.3 and 15.3 K Ohms.

If any of those 4 resistances are out of spec, you have to replace the coil pack.

It costs around $200 from mitsu.

I have a problem where my car is blowing high HC (1000ppm) and it failed smog. When I pulled the plugs, I found that both 1 and 4 were wet fouled whereas 2 and 3 were dry. The engine has about 1000 miles on it since a rebuild.

So, I'm thinking it's the coil because it just so happens to be 1 and 4 that are screwed up but I did the resistance tests and it came up pretty much normal according to that (though at the high end on the primary -- 0.9 but that's as close as my meter will read to 0.86).

Could the coil still be hosed? Is the 1/4 combo just a coincidence?
