Only reason I'm posting in the "newb" section is per your rules in regards to "new members" limiting their posts to this section. Some of you will know me from Talk.

Not sure what the hell to do to fix my idle problem. My idle will constantly hover around 675-750ish. It always fluctuates. I cannot change my target idle via DSM/ECM link. I have performed a boost leak test and did find one at the TB -> IM but that was it. I adjusted my BISS to about 750/800 and then filled it with RTV as I couldn't get it to seal even with a new o-ring.

So, I decide to log my idle for about 10 minutes using link. I attempt to adjust my target idle higher through all of link's increments. I went as far as 1100 RPM and my idle continued to fluctuate around 675-750 and it would not change.

Another thing which bothers me is my lean idle. No matter how much fuel I give it at idle (read: I added up to 50% adjustment for 0 and 50 hz with the same issue), it seems to run lean at about 15.4-15.7. This makes me think I have an exhaust leak. I have checked all of my exhaust connections and they are solid. I even went as far as taking my global from -30.9% and making it 19.x%. Same ####ing lean idle issue.

Red1991TSI (Admin on Talk) gave me a 1g ISC which is now bolted to the car. Same issue. I have not tried putting my stock 2g ISC on the car to see if anything changes.

Next, I watched my o2 sensor cycle between about .10v and .75v. Normally I see o2 sensors cycling between .10v and .90v at idle. A nice smooth curve. I do not see this. Maybe I have a bad o2 sensor? I just replaced this ####er a year ago.

On top of this, I seemed to have develop some kind of a miss. Plugs are new from about a month ago, gapped at .028 (7's). I will replace my fuel filter, and get new wires just because they are about 2-3 years old now, just to rule them out.

Any ideas? I haven't had the injectors cleaned by FIC...I guess that can be used as an option. I do not have an EGR and all the emissions have been removed from the car. All vacuum lines were recently replaced.

EDIT: You guys have a swearing filter here? :(

the factory spec for an idle is 750rpm + or - 100rpm but i understand if you wanna get it perfect because who doesn't?

does your o2 sensor normally read .10-.90v and its reading .10-.75v now? at the same time your wideband is saying your running lean? if so then i would say your o2 sensor is constantly seeing rich when in reality its stoic and the o2 sensor is making it lean. what does the wideband say when you unplug the o2 sensor and let it idle for 5mins?

did you retest for boost leaks after you sealed up the isc with rtv?

is your timing properly set, mechanical and ignition?

try spraying water on your entire ignition system with the car running.

when you logged your idle on dsmlink what was the ignition timing hovering around?

it couldn't hurt to post up that log idling. with every value that was logged at the time.

dsm's have horrible alternators. is the voltage steady after it drops when accessories and lights are turned on?

It's not that my idle is at 650 or 700 and sits there. It fluctuates. It acts as if it is missing and bounces between 650-750-800. Almost like it has idle surge, but it doesn't rev back and forth between the two.

I didn't plug the ISC with RTV. I plugged the BISS screw with RTV after setting it to 750-800 where I wanted it.

I just redid my timing along with a new water pump. She's spot on. Electrical timing should have changed since I installed the pump. Everything lined up the way it should and after driving the car from ABQ - KS I'd say she's working fine. Only seems to have a problem at idle.

Yes, my o2 sensor cycles between about .10v and .75v. Sometimes the most she sees is .68v upon a cycle. I will get a long today while driving to work and post it up for everyone to see. Make sure you guys update your laptop application or you may not be able to view my log.

Idle doesn't change much when I turn on my lights, open my sunroof, or put my windows down. If anything it seems to correct itself when I use more accessories.

Lastly, I did do another boost leak test after filling my BISS with RTV. The only remaining leak I have is TB -> IM.

Did you test your ICS for any bad coils or to see if the arm is moving the way it should?

When you put the new o ring on the BISS did you use a lubricant/grease compound on it to make sure it didn't bind up and to create a proper seal?

Yes, I lubed the o-ring with some oil and set it in. The old one I pulled out wasn't any better than the new one I put in. It was recently rebuilt, so that's expected.

I did not test the ISC in any way. I will test my 2g ISC to see if anything out of the ordinary comes up. I have a 1g ISC which was tested good by the Admin of DSMtalk. I did not test the 1g ISC before putting it on the car.

Other than that, here are a few logs.

Idle: IDLE.elg

Idle AFTER I adjusted my fuel trims, TPS, and global, and airflow/rev: http://www.mediafire.com/?jlmy2qzjoje

These logs were taken before any Idle/deadtime adjustments:
Cruise: Cruise 1.elg

Cruise 2: Cruise 2.elg

The idle log was taken after I drove home had had the car parked for about 45 minutes. Notice how the o2 sensor flatlines and the WB reads really lean. Next, the car picks up and adjusts itself and the wideband doesnt read lean and the o2 sensor begins to cycle. The o2 sensor does not have a smooth cycle, and flatlines again. This is the first time I've seen this. After it flatlines the second time, it doesn't do it anymore and cycles with hiccups in between. You'll also notice how my RPMs are not stable at idle.

With the cruise logs the o2 doesn't flatline at all, but does have hiccups.

its going to be alot harder if even possible to diag your car with a boost leak so get that sealed up first..

im haveing that same problem.. i havnt really cheaked anything or even no where to start.. on a cold start its like it has a miss to it and rpms are from 400 to 600 and after it warms up rmps go to 750 to 1200 and still sounds like a miss.. but ive changed plugs and wires and hasnt changed but when i go to mash on the gas it runs amazing like nothing is wrong.. its just at idle.. whats wrong? please help.. i have a 97 gst btw
