ok i just installed a cd player, it was installed professionally, and now when my car idles it right when it hits 1500 rpms, it drops to 400-500 rpms and the car almost dies, then it slowly climbs back to 1500 and drops again, any ideas on what coulda caused this, i know they had to un hook the battery to do the install, could this have messed with somethin? any input would be help full

Hmm...(scratching head)

The only thing I could think of that would make something like that related to a head unit install would have been if you would have added an amp or created a larger pull on the cars electrical system some how. I dont THINK that just installing a new head unit should starve the car of power like that, though....

Do you think there is any chance that they could have done something that would have messed up the alternator? I dont know if maybe a bad alternator paired with an increased load on the electrical system could cause the problem you are looking at or not.

Just a couple of ideas.

Well since they unhooked the battery it reset your ecu and it is possible that your fuel trims haven't adjusted back yet. How long have you been driving your car since the battery was disconnected? I was told by dsmchips.com that it could take up to 3 hours for the ecu to get the fuel trims readjusted to what they should be.

I knew that you could clear CEL codes with the OBD1 ECUs by unhooking the battery but I didnt know that it would affect fuel trims.

i have been driving it only to and from work for like 4 days, like 5 mins each way, i always let the car warm up for 5 before i drive it, it only does it every once and a while, not all the time, like it'll be fine when i start out then at a red light when its idleing it'll start to flux

It could also be your ISC motor starting to go out. If it is the fuel trims after a hour or so of driving the car it would go away. Hope this helps.
