this has probably been discussed a thousand times before but here goes anyway. has anyone combined stock sidemounts to make a front mount intercooler? i have seen dejon tool's and it looks like 2 combined, but i was thinking about combining 3 together (i have like 5 or 6 just sitting around collected dust anyway) to make one good sized one. it won't be a permanant mod either, just till i get a fmic kit like buschurs or something. any thoughts or opinions? or has anyone done this?

I've done it :shhh:

It really is not worth it. I only had to do it so I could drive it and mock up piping for a custom job. If you have a TIG welder laying around your mandrel bends and nothing to do this weekend...go ahead.

yeah i have been leaning against not doing it. i kind of want an evo 8 intercooler now just so i can say "i have an evo intercooler in my car" ...    . i really just think i need something better for my b16g. i don't think the stock sidemount is very good for it. how well do the starquest ICs hold up?

crappy. i suggest a supra sidemount. evo 8 ic would work well with your setup also, but a supra smic will be best IMO.

Yea, Supra sidemounts are really very under-rated. They are fairly cheap and work quite well with most setups. Only downside to them is that I've heard of some installation nightmares. Other than that, they work great for cheap!

I agree, for your goals and not wanting to drop the $$$ on a nice FMIC, follow Kooka's advise. :thumb:

i never said i wanted to cheap out. i AM getting a good front mount in about 6 months or so ... i just something better for the moment for my b16g. i will look for a supra sidemount probably. i know a guy that is selling an 88 starquest ic fairly cheap too.

spending $200 + now to install something which will be replaced again seems pointless. Either save the $200 and get a nice fmic asap or just get a supra sidemount and leave it like that. Do it right the first time :thumb:

yeah ... i'm thinking about just going the supra route for now (till i get ALL my other stuff... at least a year... i have been hearing the supra sidemount is really good). i am more concerned with why my boost won't go below 19 to 20 psi (spending money on 93 octane and octane booster to stay on the safe side)...
