I think my engine siezed, but why?

Ok here is the deal. Over the winter I rebuilt my head, removed the balance shafts and replaced the timing belt on my otherwise stock 6 bolt with about 100k miles on it. I did not replace the front cover because everthing looked fine on it. I also installed a FRH manifold and a FP 3052 turbo along with alot of other supporting mods. Well I finally got the car running good and everything was fine. I was getting zero knock, about 22 degrees of timing advace, yada yada. The car has been running only since friday. It was running very strong and everything was normal like it was before I rebuilt the head. Well I raced my friend and his EVO 8 from a rol and beat him pretty bad. Then we got on the highway and I took it to 6750 RPM according to the data logger. I put the car in neutral and it just shut off. I pulled of the exit and tried to restart it. The engine could barely turn over. I went and got my tools and tried to crank it over by hand and could not budge it.

I think it is siezed but I have no idea how or why. I pulled the valve cover and everything was nice and oiled The tops of the pistons and spark plugs looked good. Not a drop of oil leaked and yes it is full of brand new oil. There is no oil in the coolant or vice versa. I am stumped. I have no idea why it would have seized up on me. Please let me know what you think. Thanks a whole lot.

Ok so this morning I go and work on the car. I used a breaker bar on the crankshaft and it spins but is extremely hard to turn over. I took out the plugs and it is still very hard to turn over. So I am thinking maybe my alternator, water pump or oil pump seized. Nope they all rotate freely. So next I take off the valve cover to see if the cams rotate freely and have been getting a good supply of oil. Yes they look great. The only thing left to do is drop the oil pan and look at it from underneath. I am totally stumped as to why my engine barely rotates. I could understand if it wasn't getting oil, but it was. The car was running great then bam it shuts off. Please if this has happened to anyone else chime in. Or just throw some random ideas out there. I could use anything right about now. This really sucks, car ran with its new setup for about 2 days then something wierd like this has to happen. Man I have bad luck.

I can't really think of anything other than what you said you already checked, just thought I'd throw you some moral support and wish you good luck. I guess start at the basics; check for fuel, check for spark. Hope you have it back on the road again soon.

Well the obvious would be a siezed con rod bearing or main bearing at that many miles. Especially if it is that hard to turn over. I would drop the pan as you suggested and check them. You have seemed to check everything else. Keep in mind that Mitsubishi is notorious for mixing bearing sizes on the same crank so keep all your parts in order. The bearings will be stamped with numbers on them. Hopefully the crank isn't damaged.Good luck!

Same thing happend to me but i havent gotten around to take it apart yet gonna start on friday. dropped into neutral going around a corner and the bi*** shut off. i was like F##K what the hell happend

Yup you guys were right. I dropped the pan and found tiny metal shivings all over the bottom. I guess I spun a rod bearing. Well at least I have a good excuse to upgrade to some Ross and Eagles. One more dumb question that I can't seem to find the answer to. Does the front case from Conicelli come with a new oil pump or do I have to buy the gears separately? Thanks guys.
