I picked up a new daily driver Talon on my lunch break!!!

wow thats clean, i guess for the miles and condition, the price you paid was fair if not great.

there it is folks, the OEM DIN POCKET, makes it easy to install an aftermarket deck from this stock setup, you, no need to get a dash install kit, and you use the more SUPERIOR factory metal brackets, and nice din pocket.

oh but I see you were going to put the factory infinity system from the "eclipse GSX", i know for sure the harness for the stock infinity amp should still be under your new talon that doesn't have the infinity system as an option (you could tell right away this was just basic audio due to the single din deck), that and i've did installs on talons and they were always there. Now it will require more work if the proprietary din cable is not there, and also the cd changer cable to the trunk. This would require ripping half the car's interior if you are willing to do a clean install, and at that rate, its too much IMO to go just stock. But hey if luck is on your side and the wiring is already there, its a matter of just plug and play..

I see this proves only the 95s leather came with the nice sporty looking perforated leather. :)

also I notice only "Talons" have that vent thingy under the steering column, never seen any "Eclipse" with that.

Also another weird thing I've seen jsut being around 2g DSMs a lot, with "Eclipses" starting in 96, they put more contrast in that all gray dash by making the cruise/mirror position panel black, I believe even the center vent, I can't recall, but looks like in the "Talons" they've kept it gray.

also did you get the nice door panels with pocket that is actually usuable and full length of the door, or did you get unlucky and get the one with the poor excuse for a storage pocket.. this seemed to be random pickings from the factory.

RedTurboEclipse, damn you pick up on all the little shit! I was noticing alot of those things too that were different from my 97. Especially the vent under the steering wheel to keep my parts warm, LOL. As for the door panels, I didn't notice yet, I've never used them before.

As for the stereo, yes I really do hope it's plug and play and I don't have to run any of the factory wiring from my other car. As long as I don't have to splice harnesses or anything I wouldn't even mind pulling the passenger seat and folding back the carpet, I've done that enough times. I really need a CD player though. I'll at least put in the speakers. Do the 96's have 6x9s in the rear? I can't remember if that was a model year thing or a difference between base models and the turbos. I'll have to look.

I'm most excited about the cargo net, I never had that with my Eclipse. :D

Very clean and well maintained! Nice find, I'm pretty jealous myself. I wish I found something like this about a year or so ago. Good luck with it! Congrats on the find.

Looks like you already have a real nice one though! It's so weird driving a stock one.

I'm going to show it to my gf now. I'm sure I'll get some of these... WTF:banghead::toobad::mad::rolleyes:

LOL yea, my talon was pretty sweet, but had alot of problems...well, 1 big one. no 2nd gear...i sold it for a 92 na and a 95 awd that needed work, but who knew, needed a new tranny. so i sold those, and the gf said no more.

...i moved back to SC and left her in MN. But it took all my dsm money toget down here. now she lives in Muai, now im going :banghead:

I've been working on my maintenance tonight as well as my alcohol tolerance. I noticed a bit of a growling sound since I bought it... my suspicion was a bad water pump or a harmonic balancer. I pulled all of the accessory belts off to diagnose it. I can easily wobble the water pump pulleys. :coy: Oh well, I have a spare from the other car with <20k miles on it and it forces me to do the timing belt.

Looks like I'll be putting together a list of some maintenance parts this weekend.

^Why not use your warrenty for that? It's a rare thing for a DSM, might as well use it.

That has got to be the cleanest 2ga interior I've seen, especially the seats! Never seen a perfectly clean, non-torn set of the grey seats.

That is one of the best I have seen. Great find. Bummer it is a automatic. Don't trash it but keep original. Excellent car

Wow. Beautifully kept car. Congrats on the find.

It's a very basic 3 month/4,500 mile warranty. Basically if the motor or transmission explodes then it's covered. I have a water pump and I want to get the timing belt done anyway so it's not a big deal. I should have it on the road by the middle of the week.

Yea I've practically owned 6 2Gs, all turbo models. So i've noticed a lot about them.

It will have the 6x9s if you got the infinity system, but since you don't, I BELIEVE you have the 6.5" speakers back there, but with the rare but coveted 6.5" adapter in 6x9 slot. It makes for installing much better speakers since the mounting depth is so minimal there, you get more options when you have that stock 6.5" speakers.

Update,

I've got most all maintenance done. All new timing components, accessory belts, seals, fluid, all coolant hoses etc. I still have to flush the trans and put a new filter in.

Right now I have all the interior out. I took the carpets, seats, seat belts, and plastics all out for a good scrubbing. The back half of the interior is back in and I'm just waiting for the carpet to dry to finish it up.

Here's the deal with my stereo. It's the factory tape deck with no amp. The wiring in the Talon was only there for the amp. The power plug, not the din cable. I ran the cable since I had my interior out for a cleaning and put the Eclipse stereo in. So now I have a CD/Tape dual din stereo with amp.

Unfortunately only the cars with amps have the power harness for the CD changer. I reviewed the wiring diagrams in the FSM, but I'm not that good to be screwing with it trying to get it to work. But at least I have the 1 disc for now.

Also, I do have the 6.5s in the rear mounted in the 6x9 bucket.

I've got a few pics to share of my progress making sure this car is reliable and comfortable to drive around.

First thing I did was maintenance.

The water pump was going so I replaced it along with all the timing components. While I was at it, I replace all the other belts, all coolant hoses, thermostat, rad cap, transfer case fluid and rear diff fluid.

All back together. I did a quick clean up and paint of the valve cover and brake reservoir bracket

Next was the stereo. I couldn't stand not having a cd player.

Amp in factory location. I just had to run the din cable to the cd player.

I also cleaned out the interior. When I started, I was just going to take out what I had to for the stereo installation. Then I just started tearing everything out. Everything except the dash and door panels.

The original owner smoked in the car. Now that usually doesn't bother me, but I think they smoked in it with the windows up and it saturated everything. So all the plastics were yellow and the carpet was probably holding the smell. :barf:

I scrubbed down all the plastics with dish detergent. Then I scrubbed the carpet, cargo cover, cargo mat, and seat belts with dish detergent, then a mixture of laundry detergent and Murphy's oil soap. It's all like new now.

Then I scrubbed all the seats and leather conditioned them.

The only thing I want to do on the inside now is replace the headliner.

Very nice job cleaning that up, that carpet is immaculate!
Thanks! The carpet was only a little dirty around the edges. It still had the original plastic keeping most of it in good shape. You can see the plastic mats in my first post.

Quick question, how hard is to replace the carpet, and where can you get a new one?
It's not hard to replace. Remove the center console, the plastic door sill covers, unscrew the dead pedal, and pop out the rear seat cushion. That's about it other than a couple random clips. You will also have to unbolt the seat belts. Oh, the seats have to come out obviously.
If you can't clean yours I think people get them off ebay for ~$100. You'd have to search to verify that.

Great find, low miles. I know it's more than you wanted to pay, but isn't that always how it happens? Ha Ha..It sure will make a great DD, even with the auto..

I love the auto. I just sit there and be lazy. LOL First one I've owned since about 2000.

Ohh I know man I love auto's too. Especially hopping in the car in the morning with coffee in one hand and a cig in the other. It don't get any better than that..LOL..Except we don't have cupholders:( for those manual guys...

I ordered a new one from the dealer last year for a '98 TSi AWD I was putting together to sell. IIRC it was about $150ish shipped, but it was extremely hard to find. It had the tan interior, so that might have something to do with it. The local dealer ended up tracking one down somewhere down south that had it sitting on their shelf for years and forgot about it.
