I need Help with Rebuild on 97 Eclipse

I just got a 97 Eclipse and the old owner took to engine completely apart to rebuild it but never started. I now have to rebuild it and I have never done a rebuild and dont know where to even start. Please help

Go to Auto Zone and buy a Chilton book for the car or a similar repair book. I bought one for my car and used it often. I learned a lot from it.

i bought the car cause i would love a project car and want to learn everything to do. Plus i seen the car before it was all tore apart and it was in great shape and the guy sold it to me for 500 dollars

are you trying to do a stock rebuild??? and what was the purpose in the first place for the rebuild

If you are looking to rebuild the engine cheap with stock parts I would recommend Parts Dinosaur PartsDinosaur, Phoenix, Arizona, wholesale engine parts and kits

Note: There parts are not OEM.

First you should become good friends with the book to get a better understanding of the name or certin parts and where they go. Next figure out which bearings you will need for your 7 bolt build. The newer 7 bolt blocks have a multiple part main bearing. From there, everything will be cake.

before you start to order parts for your rebuild, you will want to drop the block off at a familiar machine shop to get the block and head decked and cylinders honed. After all this is done, you should be able to order the correct size for the parts you will need.
