Yep, I went with a friend and looked at a 99gsx, black on black leather, sunroof, 5-speed, a/c, keyless entry, Infinity Sound System... Everything works. It was pure dumb luck that I found this car. I needed a new DD and I was looking for something. I was talking about DSM's to a co-worker and another co-worker overheard the conversation. He said his buddy has had this GSX sitting for almost a year that he's looking to get rid of. The car wasn't listed anywhere because he wasn't really motivated to sell it. He didn't need the money and he had no time to fix it but his parents wanted it gone. I really wasn't expecting much but I went to look at it anyway. I'm pretty glad I did.
The compression was 180-160-160-160 so not too shabby. I'll be the third owner of the car. The previous owner bought it in 2000 with 30K on it. It's got 178K on it now. A lot of highway miles. It has a rebuilt t-25 turbo and a rebuilt head put on a couple years ago. It needs a clutch because it's slipping. It's still on the original clutch. That same friend helped my pull the trans and the clutch disc wasn't worn out, it was just a couple broken springs. A little paint chipped on the bumper from an ice chunk falling off a truck and hitting it a couple years ago. One little tiny door ding by the gas cap. It has a little paint fade on the roof. A headlight has sun fade. Other than that, the car is in GREAT shape. We were both impressed.
The car is as stock as it was when it left the showroom floor. Completely unmolested. When I bought it, the guy gave me a folder an inch thick of all the service records. He took good care of it. So, once I do a clutch job and timing belt job on it, oil change, fuel filter, trans flush... I'll be driving it around. I can't wait.

For a "99" with paint fade and already replaced/rebuilt things, I'm not sure that is something to term as "great shape"

If you cant say how much you paid for it, sounds like too much :p

For a daily driven Wisconsin car and the shock towers being in tact and only one little door ding... I'd say it's in great shape compared to what I've seen. I'll deal with a couple 'lil spots of paint fade. I'll probably paint it next year. Painting a car is a lot easier than painting a car that needs dents, cracks, rust, shock towers... fixed first. The turbo was rebuilt because he had the head off and did it while he was in there. The head was replaced because he burned a valve. But, compression is good, doesn't burn or leak oil, crank is tight. Good enough for me. If I didn't buy it, the guy I went with was going to.

I've been in the DSM scene for a few years and the guy I went with has owned 20+ DSM's, been in the DSM scene for years and we both think I got a good deal. All the local DSMers that have stopped by have thought it was a good buy. :p

I'm not sure why everyone is so hung up on how much people pay for cars. If the buyer is happy that's all that should matter. :thumb:

People want to know the price out of curiosity.

Why are you scared to post up the price? Scared you got boned?

You live in california, you have no idea what rust is.

Your arguement is invalid :D

Great shape car, but I think I said that on another forum.
Glad to see another local dsmer.

I still havent figured out why people go bragging about a good deal and wont tell us how much they paid.... I gave $500 for a running 2g awd auto tsi with a horrid paint job.

Im guessing you paid close to 10k ??

I'm thinking between $6k and $10k which really isn't that good of a deal if the price is closer to the $10k range. But the car does look nice, it's stock, the interior looks great so have fun with it once you fix the clutch.

So...um.. how much was it again?:hmm:

it is a nice looking car! it makes me miss my 2g (almost).
and your right as long as the buyer is happy that is all that matters. i was just curious and i didnt intend for hard feelings!

Thanks Lofty and eclipse-gs-t. I'm hoping to be driving it next week. Thanks also joshs1074. I never had any hard feelings. Who knows, I see your in WI so I might see you at a meet. Let me know if anythign local is going on.

yeah there are a lot of people that mod their cars and do damage to their cars due to piss poor tuning and hacking. i know that i would be nervous about buying one. i would NOT be nervous about buying one from someone with a reputation like bkcknspoOLn though.

how come people will pay $10k for a stock GSX, but won't pay 12k for a street car like mine :coy:

I dunno. I know I wouldn't pay anywhere near 10K for a stock GSX. I like your Talon by the way. That's very nice.

10k no way, im sure he paid less than 4-6k for it. i sold my 99 GSX in 2005/2006 for 10k and it was immaculate with like 78k on it

Nice find. And since I, as well as everyone else on here does not know, how much did you pay for the car?
