HP difference

I'm arguing with someone that a Manual DSM has more HP than the Automatic. I know they have bigger parts (injectors, camgears etc) I cannot find the link that shows the charts on the Manual Turbo vs Auto Turbo etc. But for 2g's I think it was like 210 vs 205 or something. So the question is:

Does a manual trans AWD Turbo DSM have more HP than the Automatic even if its only 5?

Look at the Mazda RX-8, for exapmle. The stick has 237 hp, and the auto has 197. This is mostly due to the amount of power that it takes to get the torque converter to power up with the rotary engine.

That would then be considered drive train loss. I'm not sure if that's what they were talking about. If you're factoring in drive-train loss then yes the manual will have more power to the wheels then the automatic.

Talking about the "written" HP of each type. If you took a stock MT car and AT car and dynod them, THE SAME CARS, would the MT have more hp. Is what we're talking about.

If you are dyno-ing the two cars, then yes, it would have less horsepower. Most of the horsepower numbers that come from the factory are at the drivetrain. If you take into account the loss from the drivetrain and have equal hp cars, then the auto would have even less horsepower than the manual because of the torque converter.

In 1g's motor for motor (no drivetrain loss) manuals have more power. The autos get weaker cams and a smaller turbo. In 2g's they both get the little t25 so motor for motor they are the same
