winter is comming soon. i dont really need to have a bunch of power in the snow and ice. and i could use some extra cash from the improved gas milage. how could i disable the turbo or run really low pressure. i was thinking just unhooking the wastegate arm and using some wire to hold the wastegate open. the only thing i was thinking that it would be really bad if for some reason the gate closed and wouldnt be able to open. is there a better way to do this?

plug the wastegate directly into a boost source

but I have a better idea

why don't you just not floor it everywhere you go?

thats not an option

seriously try driving around with out building boost. ive tried it and i end up driving like a old lady.

Just got to keep the rev's under 3k, unless your car is running badly, should be more then enough to keep up with traffic

even more so in snow, and ice

You should drive like an old lady in snow and ice.

The amount of money you'll save is pointless, its not you like your going to be driving hard on the snow/ice anyways.

My opinion is that you are not going to be saving that much money, maybe pennys off the dollar with the fuel mileage. I don't think it would be worth it to cut your turbo out of a car that is built stock with a turbo. As long as you are not flooring it or topping out your rpm's your mileage should be pretty good. My GST gets around 23 mpg, I think the GSX only gets a little less. My girlfriend has a 95 GS and she gets around 28 or so on her tank. Not worth it in my opinion man, we have dsm's (problem children already), I would not want to push her (my baby GST) more than that. :D

ok im not asking if this is a good idea or not. im just looking for the best way to do it. ive been driving turbo dsms for 3 years now. i know that my n/a talon got about 28-30 mpg and my turbo gets about 20mpg. might not seem like a big difference but when you drive about 1600 miles a month it will. to make this easier to see. at 1600 miles a month and 20mpg im using 80 gallons per month. if i could bring that up to say 26mpg then thats about 60 gallons. so im using 20 less gallons and at about $2 each gallon thats $40 a month im saving. if i wasnt a broke ass college student i wouldnt care but i am so :p

just unhook the arm... thats what ive always done when i dont want to boost... granted it will still build some boost at high RPMS and WOT...

I never rigged anything to keep it open or anything, just took arm off and was done with it... exhaust will push it open...

eliminate your boost controller and run you vacuum line direct from the j-pipe to the wastegate.. you run like 7 or 8lbs .. its like the lowest possible boost you can run. LOL

soooo slow though ..

Disconnect the wastegate flapper arm, and find out what a hideously stumbling pig a 2600 pound car with a 2-liter, 8½:1 compression engine is.

You could always just remove the Upper Intercooler pipe, and put a filter on the TB elbow. That will guarantee no boost also..

If you can't drive normally or want a gas sipper, sell the car.

I get better gas milage with my 50 trim than I ever had with the puney T25. :D

But then it would run like crap because the air actually going into the intake would have nothing to do with what the MAF measured.

you could just plug the oil supply like to the turbo and let it blow. that way it is dead and not working.

Might not be the best idea, but then in the spring you have a real good reason to go get a new T4, FP Green, or what ever floats your boat... :D
