I've looked and I can't seem to find a how-to on replacing all of the shift cables and the shift assembly in the car. Its probably really simple, I would just like to have something to check against as I am doing this so its done right and not jank like the previous owner did.

ok, this is from a 2g but I can imagine it being that much different, so the only differences would be the accessing to these as these pictures I took for you is from my race build which is stripped down.

I took these with the lowest resolution setting so bear with me, First thing is to remove the two cotter pins from the shifter end cables from the tranny side and then the 2 lock "C-clips" holding the cables on the mount.

Secondly access any panels under the dash to get to the mounting nuts on the firewall, they should be 2, 12mm nuts. note that the cables are attached in a rubber assembly so that means that the only way to pull them is out through the engine bay.

thirdly, and lastly remove the center console along with any other junk thats in the way to get to the shifter cable ends. basically the same as step one, remove the 2 cotter pins and then the 2 C-clips on the bracket and all thats left is to maneuver the cables out through the engine bay.

DONE! as you are doing it in your car you can obviously choose to deviate from the instructions as necessary to ease any differences between yours and mine.:D
