i just installed a a walbro 190 fuel pump on my 2g fwd. this will follow the principles of the vfaq install so compare the two.
1. jack the rear end of the car up.
2. remove your back seat.
3. take out the 5 gold screws holding the metal plate down that covers the fuel pump assembly. PIC 1
4. unplug the wiring harness to the assembly and push all electrical components out of the way.
5. remove the nuts that hold the assembly in place (5/16).
6. next remove the vent line. PIC 2
7. remove the gas cap, and making sure the electrical harnesses are detached start the car. it should pretty much die. then try top crank it over a couple of times to clear all the fuel outta the lines.
8. using tin snips, cut the floor of the car here, it won't hurt anything and makes it easier. PIC3.
9. now go underneath of the car (wearing glasses) and separate the two fuel lines. put a 19mm line fitting wrench on one end, and a 14mm on the other. either push together or apart to loosen. place a towel or bucket below the fitting (yea no matter what gas is going to leak so be prepared. PIC 4 & 5.
10. when the fittings are disconnected pull the assembly out of the car. gas will drip off so have a towel laid inside the car. here is what it looks like PIC 6.
11. using a phillips head screwdriver, remove the little screw on the lower bracket PIC 7.
12. remove the electrical plug. PIC 8
13. now gently pull on the pump twisted very slightly. when you pull it out it should look like the top pump not the bottom. PIC 9.
14. here is the pump detached. carefully remove each piece that is separated by the pink lines, keeping the large black spacer for the new pump. PIC 10.
15. take the little metal ring off the pump to remove the fuel filter. your new install kit should have another.
16. place the new filte ron the pump and put the new metal o ring on to secure it in place.
17. reconnect the pump to the assembly. to do so, place your new black rubber o-ring on top of the spacer and the little clear white piece on top of that. then gently slide the new pump in place exactly how the old one was.
18. reconnect the electrical plugs and place the assembly back into the car. reconnect the vent line, the lower fuel line underneath of the car, and hammer the part you cut with tin snips back into place. reconnect the electrical plugs, put the nuts and screws back into place, put the seat back in, and fire the bad boy up. she'll take a couple of tries but there ya go!
install time : 30 min to an hour.
if i left out anything feel free to pm me or add to it.
