Okay guys sorry for the bump. I know this is kind of an old thread but i'm replacing my drive axle seals and i'm going to flush the tranny as well. I've read through this thread and I guess you can use any brand of ATF + 4. My question is when I look up ATF + 4 on google it says it's automatic tranny fluid so will it work in a manual as well? Thanks.

Yes it will. It is now the dealer recommended fluid. It is a cost savings measure for them. If you care to read through this post (ALL the way through);

you will learn a bit more about the reasons and other choices.

I only use the ATF-4 in my bone-stock, easy-driven cars. Any other car that is going to see "hard driving" I use Amsoil. You can read through the previous thread if you want to make a different choice.

Thanks for the info bullet. My car is not easily driven at all LOL. infact I have an upcoming track day december 10th so I want to use the amsoil as well. What is it specifically called. Is it just amsoil ATF + 4 or is it something else? Can I find it at my local autoparts store? Thanks!

ATF+4 is a specification. For a fluid to call itself ATF+4, it should meet (or exceed) those specifications. Because I'm cheap, I use the cheapest generic ATF+4 I can find, and it has been working fine for a long time. I don't beat mine up, of course, only DD.

See post #19 above.

hey you guys my turn to change my fluid, i want to use the MOPAR and add one lucas transmission fix can i do that? or i don't need the Lucas?

Don't use the Lucas. Synchromesh admittedly works okay, but ATF+4 is the officially recommended fluid. See Locke's posts above.

I have a question, How do i change the Fluid in My Manual Transmission?
Im kind of new to the whole Manual Trans thing and was wondering. how i am suppose to change it. I see there is a plug at the bottom of the trany to drain it but where do i full it up.

Read the first page of the thread. Take out drain plug let oil drain replace drain plug remove speed sensor fill with fluid using ling hose or long funnel.

The nvt-350 recomended oil is mineral oil based. If something is worth doing do it right

There's actually a rubber fill plug that you can remove with your hands or pliers. It's easy to gain access to it if you remove the front driver's side wheel.

Quick question...I've been searching about how to check/change tranny fluid on my 420a...its a Eclipse RS 95.

@Cammus: Second post of this very tread. There is info and tips throughout this very short thread.

I just saw ONE post saying: is like any other tranny, blabla...but I've never did this before so I dont know where the drain is, etc.

So If anyone have like pics or the explanaiton step by step I would appreciate it.

Thnx :aha:

i only have about 1000 miles on my tranny with no problems using Castol ATF+4...so far no issues, I've searched the web for quite a few months till I settled on the ATF+4 fluid. I would recommend it, and It only takes 2 full qts. I would buy 3 and flush about a half quart through to make sure you get all the old fluid out. You dont want to fill it till its flush with the drain plug, fluid does expand when it warms up and you do want to leave room for that. I would measure it with an Allen key first and then fill it up to however much it was prior to draining it.
