How to Change A Waterpump on a 420a 2G?

Is it hard and what manual should I buy or download? I tried searching I saw many threads were turbo based so I want to make sure I get the right information for my car.

98 420a n/t

I have a waterpump leak and already bought the water pump now I just need some advice prior to installing it with the help of my father.

Get the stuff for a timing belt job while you're at it. You'll love yourself later for it. :)

Hey thanks for the quick reply I really appreciate it :)

That thread you linked me to, linked me to an article that just talks about the timing belt I don't see any reference of water pump removal / installs on there.

Timing Belt VFAQ

^^ That was the link from inside the thread.

Does anyone have a link directly to a page with details on how to install/remove a 420a water pump? I tried Google and came back to multiple dsmtuner.com threads that talk about turbo models. Seems like a lot of the turbo models are blowing up water bumps LOL 2 much boost

Once you remove the rear timing cover it is right there. There are like 6 or so bolts that hold it on. Take it off scrape the old gasket off the block, install with new gasket and reinstall everything like vfaq shows.

The reason that link is helpful, is because your water pump is timing belt driven. So when you go at it like a timing belt job, you will find your water pump. If you scroll down you can actually see in the pictures where it says "water pump pulley." The water pump pulley is attached to the water pump. When you get everything undone, like when you're replacing the timing belt, the water pump is easy enough to change.

That link is helpful I agree but is there anything more 'newbie friendly' somewhere with like step by step instructions? My dad and I haven't done a Water pump yet on this car so we're not sure about everything.

If we have to we'll buy one of those manuals at Autozone or oReilly that discuss 95 - 99dsm but I thought we'd be able to find a helpful tutorial here.

2GNT.com - Timing_Belt_Replacement

^All these steps and then remove and replace water pump.

This is a really good link. OP I recomend that you read through this thread very carefully. It provides all the little tips and tricks that will save you a lot of time and frustation. I wish I would have seen this before takling my timing belt/water pump job, I had to figure out the tips and tricks myself.
