How strong is 1G 4-bolt rear end in RWD mode?

How strong is 1G 4-bolt rear end in RWD mode? I dont want to use GM 10 or 12 bolt diff and 4-link.And I am ready if need to take from DravshaftShop stronger axels for the rearend. Are 1G 4-bolt diff and axles will hold the auto 2-speed Powerglide launch and about 400 whp?Thanks!
 
The rear diff is proven strong, it's the axles that suck. Also you'll want to look into so additional bracing of the rear diff and sub frame if your looking to abuse the car frequently and still keep it reliable.

Stock 4 bolt axles and diff have gone 9's I think you need to read up more before saying something sucks ;)

As for using them in rwd mode you would be putting more power to them then a awd car so I think at a minimum for a car trying to make over 500RWP you should atleast get upgraded shaft replacements.
 
When all the power goes to rear only the diff and axles are under twice the stress as AWD mode. I had a friend that converted AWD car to RWD years ago. Results were not as expected. Didnt get any more traction than FWD car. not enough weight in rear. And he was making like 300hp and he broke axles in no time at all. but he did have wheel hop problem. I drove the car and thought it was a complete waste. didnt even drift like nice RWD car should.
 
I have a Starion and want to put in it the 6-bolt engine from the eclipse , 2-speed powerglide and the rear end from the eclipse with the LSD.I dont want to use GM 10 or 12 bolt diff and 4-link.And I am ready if need to take from DravshaftShop stronger axels for the rear end.Is the 1G 4-bolt diff and axles will hold the powerglide launch and about 400 whp? P.S. - I have AWD 4bolt LSD Eclipse but its crashed and can not be repaired.
 
The Starion is excellent platform to do what you are doing. That changes things a bit. I would definitely use the gm rear for that setup. Its proven bullet proof . Starion comes with plenty of room for big rear tires. Some nice big street legal drag radials and you can have a ball on the street as well. Build it with eclipse rear and you will be kicking yourself first time it breaks.
 
Ok , I am near to think eclipse rear is not for my setup.May be will sell it and will look for GM rear.In fact I want to build strongest car I can. :thumb:
 
If you're getting a Chevy rearend, be sure to get either a 8.5" 10bolt or 12bolt rear. Don't get the 7.5" as it is not as capable as the 8.5.
 
Dont use a ford 9in. A 8.8 is plenty capable and you will not loose as much power. Stay away from 10 bolts.
 
The 8.8 Ford mustang rear is plenty capable of handling quite a bit of power. The nice thing about those is there are plenty available, where as the old 10 & 12 bolts are beginning to get rare.
 
The cheapest way to a bullet proof rear is a 8.8 out of a 95-up Ford Explorer. They have the big 31 spline axles like the 9", a 3.73 or 4.10 gear ratio, disc brakes, and most had lsd's. They are 59-3/4" axle to axle and can be narrowed to whatever you need pretty cheap. I think Moser Welcome To Moser Engineering will narrow the housing and cut and respline the axles for like $235.
 
He is also in europe, too. Shipping will be some big $dollars$(euros,whatever) for a 8.8", 10-bolt,etc
