just looking for some answer;s to an easy question...
how much should it cost for a throwout bearing and a set of rings... just need rings and throwout bearing... mopar its 29bucks which is cheap and then trans shops are asking 500bucks for just install. and rings at a local respected shop wants me to pay 3500 to just put on new rings... thats more then a rebuild whats up?WTF

Both places are trying to screw you...thats whats up.

8hr TOPS for the re-ring.

5hrs TOPS for the tob

I can understand the TOB because you have to crack the cases, It is a bit on the expensive side though. Its basically the same price as a clutch install. Thats why I'm my own mechanic...
The reringing quote is astronomical... They probably didn't really need the business all that bad and/or didn't wanna do it. When I dont wanna sell a part I jack the price up. You know how it goes.

Like 1gcrazy said its alot cheaper to be your own mechanic. If you dont mind the labor doing the job yourself will be a great learning experience as well as save you money. Most people that know how to work on cars learned by neccessity not the want to do the work.

i dont have a problem being my own mechanic, just i dont want to drop my trans... my 91 laser was a bi**h to do a replace. i have the parts as i told the shops and thats the prices i got. plus i dont have a sleeve for the piston's probably can get ahold of one.. on this note what would be better i know .20 over is cool an all but in the end should i go .20 over or stay stock?:talon:
