Hey guys,
I'll be the first to admit this is one stupid question but i'm trying to get basic direction. My cars insurrance it going off end of this week which means it's going into storage for the winter *dang MN* Anyways in my town there are a lot of what i like to call redneck boys with there V8's don't get me wrong I love V8 motors and have a Z71 pickup but these guys are leaving a bad tast in my mouth

There are two guys in town with mid to late 90's mustangs there the V6 3.8's with manuals. I kid you not these guys follow me around town tailgate me cut me off and so forth because i have a auto 420A non turbo so i can't get in front of them. there are also a couple V6 camaro's in town that do the same. most of the import guys are pretty nice but these guys aren't. and because i panted my car pretty before adding power. Which is kind of backwards but the car was wrecked so it needed new body parts and paint anyways thats why i went that direction.

So pretty much my question is what kind of power numbers do i need to run and how much boost will i need to walk all over these 3.8 manual cars. I'm tired of them chasing me around and trash talking.

like i said kind of a lame question but i think i've got a pretty good reason as to why i want to hold my own.
Thanks guys. :thumb:

147.3 whp WTF

Start researching. Your 420A is not exactly a bolt on and go power car. You'll need to learn the intricacies of turbos and or nitrous and upgrade accordingly. Just adding an intake and exhaust isn't going to make your car fast. Majority of the N/T guys out there will never get to the point of pounding V8's into the ground. If it's speed you're after without alot of work you'll want to pick up a 4G63. If you're looking to spend the time and money, and want to upgrade your 420A look at a Hahn Racecraft turbocharger kit.

And remember, street racing is frowned upon here. Bench racing sucks...

I do understand the amount of work needed for a 420A to be fast. pistons rings rods etc etc.
I also agree streetracing isn't a good idea. i'm more interested in not getting picked on all the time.

if i setup the car to run 15lb of boost and build the motor will that be enough power to hold my own?

My PERSONAL opinion. If you are going to spend that much money getting your car to be around 200-300 hp, why not just buy a 4g63 turbo'd AWD car and do about a thousand dolor worth of mods to it and you'll be right up there with the v8's. And you will POUND on those v6 mustangs like crazy.

15 lbs of boost in a 420A is alot of work and it is not going to come over night. You're talking a couple few thousand dollars worth of parts and probably the same amount worth of labor (if you take it somewhere). You'll need to do some bottom and top end work on the car (block and head). Not to mention the turbo kit costs roughly 3k. Will 15lbs of boost smack around of V8's? 15lbs on a 420A will smack around alot of the TSI's and GST's on this site. 11:1 compression at 15lbs of boost is alot of ass kicking for that motor. I'm not sure if the average and even above average person will be able to afford a project like that. Shooting for 7 lbs is more realistic, and you'll be quite pleased with the results. You may not be able to spank the V8's, but you'll have earned their respect.

Everytime I look at a post like this someone says buy a turbo'd AWD...

Anyway, from the post before, looks like a few thousand dollars to fix up the 420a, so if you are going to spend that kind of time and money, I'd go ahead and buy a 4g63 and put it in. But I don't know automatic sucks!

G/L with whatever you do! :dsm:

Automatics aren't as bad as people think. My automatic is pretty nimble.

What the bench racing? Why don't you look up 1/4 mile times on some website on the cars you want to race, at the track, and then look at the turbo conversion guys on here and see what they have done to get themselves to a time better than that of the folks picking on you?

Um...don't you think making your car faster and racing people is just going to make people want to F with you more? I can't drive home from the grocery store without some kid weaving through traffic to get next to me at a red. Laaaaaaame.
