Whats up guys,

I am looking into doing a 6 bolt next year. I am planning on doing the engine and head both and maybe a smim from magnus and a transmission soon most likely. I am just curious to how much everyone has invested in thier swap and what route they went, i.e. built it yourself, shop built, shop installed etc...

I am just looking for a baseline of what you had to spend and what you got for it and if possible where you got your parts/work done at. My mods aer in my profile if you need to see them.

Thanks,
Ben

400 for a 50K low mileage 6bolt
200 for cometic HG, 6bolt arp HS
150 for complete engine gasket set
i bought some forged Ross pistons bored .20 over for 380 or so but thats when i blow the motor on high HP levels if i ever get that high..
But i did all the work and took out the balance shafts. but i really didnt spend anything over 800 bux for a solid Stock compression motor into my 2g... Now my tranny is being rebuilt by shep in a few weeks. But tahts a whole other story... Oh yeah i forgot to mention I did buy Dsmlink and a laptop for a total of 750 bux extra just so the 6bolt would not have any weird CEL lights come up on me and for tuning purposes.. :thumb:

Well, I had a friend help me with mine at his shop, and since I was curious, I kept track of hours/normal price for parts and such. Had someone walked in the shop and just let Luke do this, it would've came out to just a touch over $2000. That's for pulling the motor from my old car, I got the head machined and valve seals and guides replaced, new gaskets/seals all around, timing belt, and some misc crap I needed off of a '91 AWD since the '90 parts wouldn't fit.

Figure ~2k for a complete trouble free install. If you go with aftermarket pistons and rods with a rebuild it will be more. If you go with a stock 6-bolt block, it will be less.

Is there anything about a 4g63 that should warrant a dsm shop building the motor or should any qualified performance shop be able to build a good engine? I have no dsm shops any closer than a 5 hour drive but there are a few decent engine builders close. But they dont have a great number of 4g63's under thier belt.
