Ok, I just wanted to ask here to get other opinions of what I can/should set my boost at for daily driving and for track. Here's all the stats of my car: ported 14b/mani/o2 housing, complete intercooler/intake hardpiping, greddy s bov, mag wires, bpr7 sparks, mbc, stock 2g craptastic intercooler, 255 walbro pump, stock injectors, no management (safc2 or dsmlink ect.) i just got the 14b on last night and didnt want to blow anything up so i have it set at 14psi right now and am more then happy with it considering I came from a t25 :D thanks anyone for their imput. My next mods i'm thinking of are safc2, injectors, fmic, then go from there. let me know what you think :thumb:

Your 14b turgo can handle 16-17psi with no problem but your stock "craptastic intercooler" cant cool enough air to handle boosting more than maybe 14psi

haha.. so maybe i should go for the intercooler before safc and injectors? i heard that the stock sidemount is good for about 16 or occasional 17? anyone else?

I have read previous threads that the stock SMIC can hold the max of 18-19lbs.
With my 14b and SMIC I have my boost set at 16lbs then when I take it to the tracks I set it at 18lbs.
But a FMIC is needed obviously.

he is right, just keep it a 14 for right now and get a front mount, not only is it a good upgrade for the smaller turbos (14b) it will be a modification that is a must later on.

ok sounds good, this is my daily driver like i said so i will just play it safe for now so i dont end up stranded without a ride. where is this cheapest place you can get fmic with piping? i know there is a lot of good deals where you buy the core and do piping yourself but ive had too much bad luck with blowing off pipes :(

I run 17 on pump and 22 on Race-gas!!! So with your mods, i'd keep it around 17 no more unless u run race-gas!! Just make sure you have a good tune!!! Tuning is EVERYTHING!!! :thumb:

for the life of your turbo i would keep it down untill you can provide better cooling.

I will be different and say that your next mods should be

1. An afpr setup to keep your fuel pressure under control.

2. A logger so you can find out exactly what is safe to run. I suspect your currently setup, assuming everything is working properly including boost leak free, should be able to safely support 16psi but I would keep it at 14psi until you can verify with a logger.

3. Upgraded injectors and fuel management.

4. IC. I believe that injectors will probably get you before IC will but they are not very far apart, 3 and 4 can easily be switched in order.

Be patient and do it right the first time, a safe boost level should never be a guess, always go by the logger.

i was able to get about 15.5psi without any knock and no fuel upgrades on my 92 tsi fwd with a 2.5"pressbent catback, and K&N

you can take his word over anyones.

I'm going to have to agree with oldman, exept I'd put the logger at #1. After you get that start turning the boost up until you get knock and then crank it back down a hair. Then do all the stuff oldman said to do. :thumb:

I wouldn't go that far but I appreciate the comment though. :)

ahh the great oldman has spoken! i feel honored haha.. thanks for the info so far guys..

Not sure, but I also am going to be putting a 14b on my 95 Tsi here in a few weeks. I know the stock SMIC is nothing but garbage, but would getting a Supra SMIC be a good thing to get if im not gonna get a turbo higher than a 14b? Or would the Supra SMIC make no dif. and should I just leave on the stock intercooler?

yeah it could cool the air, not as good as a front mount, but yeah it will. The real questions is, is it worth it to you? if you can find a deal on a front mount then go for it. just look around and see what is the best deal for the money and for your setup. i dont see any problem with a supra side mount....does anyone else?

the supra side mount is a whole lot better than the stocker, but you shouldnt be worried about that now.

first you need fuel and tuning. get a aeromotive fpr, injectors(at least 550s), and a safc to tune. youre going to also need a logger to know what to tune by. then you can crank the boost up to around 18 with a good tune. then move on to the IC.

by "full exhaust" what do you mean? if you go too big it might boost creep, but a 190 fuel pump wont hurt the car...nor should a 2.5" exhaust. If you are going to mod make sure what you are doing is what you need to be doing first. listen to thomas
