before you have to upgrade the fuel system. What is the highest safe boost?

Thanks,
Steve

It is my understanding that you NEED to have a fuel pump to run a big 16G. Once you have a pump, you can run 16lbs daily, reliably - I am. (This excludes race gas, of course.)

Turbos don't "hold" boost. Under the right circumstances you can make a 16G boost 100 psi (on a high pressure flow simulator). On your DSM the reason you don't want to boost too high is because your engine can only handle so much power and your fuel curves have to be adjusted to match the extra air. Oh, and no you don't need a fuel pump to use a 16G, but if you plan on boosting high (say around 15-20 psi) then you may consider getting one. Other wise you will have to get some pretty large fuel injectors. If you stick with the stock fuel system, don't plan on boosting more than 10 psi.

Thanks for the input, guys.

I do plan on picking up a fuel pump soon. That being said, would I necessarily need to get injectors yet if I want to boost about 12-15 psi on this new turbo?

Thanks again.

If your going with a new fuel pump, your going to need two things:

1.) Fuel control computer (preferably the SAFC II)
2.) AFPR Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator.

Both of them together will probably cost your somewhere around $500 new. Good luck! :thumb:

This is assuming you already have a pocket logger or MMCD (free pocket logger) or some other way to detect knock. (You'll need to make sure your knock levels are normal since you are changing the fuel curves, otherwise prepare to spend a whole lot of money on a new engine).

Your duty cycle will be close to 100%, I wouldn't recommend going over say 13.5psi. Invest in some 660s at the same time and you are :thumb: to go.

Ummmm...no. If you increase the pressure in the fuel line, your duty cycle will become lower, because more fuel is being squirted into the cylinder per cycle (because of the higher pressure). If you went with the fuel pump and AFPR your duty cycle will still be low, even with stock 450 injectors, depending on how high you run your pressure.

Riiiight. Slap a B16G on your car, turn the boost to 16psi on the stock injectors and tell me how low your duty cycle is.

There are numerous people in this forum that run 20 psi (on the 16G) off of the stock injectors. Come on man, think about it. If you run HIGHER pressure behind the injector, when the solenoid opens the valve, MORE fuel will go through the injector. The only thing I dont know about is if the 450's can stand up to the high pressure or not. I think this type of setup may cause some type of premature wear/failure, but it works for alot of people.

I ran a Big16G at 16 pounds for almost a year on a stock pump, no rewire, stock injectors.

I only had a AFC2 and a Pocketlogger for upgrades other then that. I never hit fuel cut, and I was turned to around 4 knock at WOT.

I just resently upgraded to RC 550's, Walbro 255, MAFT blowthrew with 2.5 inch pipes and turned the boost to 20 pounds.

That whole o well you need this or that to run whatever is in my personal opinion crap. Each car is diffrent. Some cars run good with or without certain things and others dont even though they are the same type of car. Basicly what I'm saying is get the turbo in there with a pocketlogger and see how its running then go from there. Who knows you might need other fuel upgrades like a rewire or larger pump. Maybe not.
