my car is making squeeking noises when idle/howling noises when driving from inside tranny.
im suspecting its the input shaft bearing from all the searches i've done on this forum.

my question, how do i replace the input shaft bearing? is easy like replacing the clutch? or do i have to do something different?

Take off the transmission, use a puller on the input shaft bearing, tap the new one in.

that easy huh? maybe we can do it..

how much is it for the new input shaft bearing, you know?
yeah im going to have to take off the flywheel to get it resurface because two weeks ago when we installed the act2100 clutch we didnt' resurface it. Now after 1.3k miles, its still slips when going hard from 1st gear to second and on.
so its almost as easy as droping tranny and doing the clutch change right?
cool...thanks

imma purchase a haynes manual tomorrow.

Quick question about your issues... The sound you describe seems like mine sorta. Does the sound goes away when you press the clutch in and comes back when you let the clutch up?

I have a 95 GSX with a new Throw Qut Bearing and I still get a noise as if something inside whirling around when the CLutch is no engauged...

I think in a post I made last week I said the sound stays the same speed even if I bump the throttles in neutral... well thats not the case. The sound gets faster as the engine turns faster... so it almost seems like something is engauged even though the clutch is in the up position!!

So I'm just wondering if your issue is the same as mine...

Thanks in advance!

yes its the same exact sound. you hear it when the clutch is not pressed. With the clutch pressed in, the sound goes away.
the sound does get louder the faster i go, you can hear it whinnning from the passenger side with the windows up.
im going to try get it fixed tomorrow or thursday, see if it works.

im just wondering,

does the bigger Throw out bearing that i used from the new ACT 2100 clutch kit have anything to do with that noise?
is it related to the input shaft bearing noise?

It could be the throwout bearing actually, isn't that usually what happens (whiring sound except when clutch is pushed in)? Did you lubricate the bearing before installing it? Also I have read that ACT TOBs dont work as well as the OEM ones (but there is 2 sides to it, its not a proven fact). Maybe try switching back to OEM when you drop the tranny again. Also definetly resurface that flywheel or you will need a new clutch disk pretty fast!

the throw out bearing is suppose to make noise only when the clutch is pressed in and not the other way around.
thats why i think it is the input shaft bearing.

yeah im going to resurface the flywheel for sure this time, hopefully the clutch is still good.

Well NOZ thanks for the info.... Let me know what you find out... I will be watching this thread. THat is my issue.. spot on. Many thanks for the reply...

I had mitsu do the trow out bearing and the noise is still there... The car is a new Stock clutch... but I think it is something deeper then that...

Thanks again!!

I have the same dang noise and have had it for almost 5 years now ever since Satan put in a rebuilt tranny back in '99. It's a quiet, squeek-squeek-squeek-squeek, that goes away when I push my clutch pedal in 1/2". It did it with the stock clutch/TOB, does it with the 2100 & stock TOB, and when I installed my B&M LSD insert I lubed up the clutch fork, input shaft, TOB and everything else I could slap some grease on and it STILL does it. I gave up. I figure if it's gonna keep doing it after 5 years, I'll just turn my radio up 2 more clicks.
