Hey, everybody. I'm going to 1/4 track, in about 2 weeks. And I was wondering, what would it take for me, not to spend a whole bunch of money, and still pull something decent out of my 91 AWD (14B) And being all stock. If I already ordered the MBC from JoeP, and I will rewire the fuel pump with thicker wires, and run 15 psi? Would the headgasket hold the pressure? Thanks for any advice, and everything, that I should get. Oh, yeah, I will also do all the necessary maintenence.

When I raced my 92 gsx back last year, I had only a 3" catback, hi-flow cat, k&n filter on 15 psi, and I ran a 13.8@96, going easy on her. I also had boost creep in 3rd gear, so I had to short shift it. I later found out I had 2 huge boost leaks also.

Before you race it, check for boost leaks! You should be fine at 15 psi, but make sure you have an aftermarket boost gauge, as the stock one doesn't mean anything once you modify anything on the car. Your headgasket should be fine at 15psi. I also highly recommend getting some type of logging device, that will tell you how high you can be boosting with your setup. I have one from www.pocketlogger.com and I couldn't be happier.

When you race make sure you let it cool down at least a good 20 minutes between runs, as the clutch will slip if you hotlap it, and the intercooler will heatsoak. You should have no trouble pulling a 14.5-14.6 with nothing more than a little more boost and good driving.

Whatever you do, do NOT just drop the clutch off the line. Especially if its the stock clutch. Best case scenario: you fry the clutch. Worst case:you start breaking stuff LOL. Practice makes perfect, just start out slow and get a feel for the car.

If your worried about not having enough fuel. Im sure you track sells race gas right there. Dump a couple gallons in and away you go.

Thanks a lot. But wouldn't my car be slower than 14.6, if I don't launch it? As for the boost gauge, I have an aftermarket one, and I also have a lightweight cranckshaft pulley, if it makes difference, nothing else... What I will do, is I will do is change the timing belt, balanceshaft belt and a water pump, and probably the cam seals and the valve cover. Should be all good for this part, right?

Don't be afraid to rev your car high and launch it... Yeah I know people will say you'll break stuff, But that all depends on the car I guess.

On a side note, I ran a 13.0 @ 106mph my first time ever even racing at a race track..

weight reduction
fuelpump
racegas
boost

unbolt your exhaust if you have a stock one? My buddy ran a 12.7 with basically the same mods I just listed for my run. I know they are not fast times, But for so little mods they are OK.

Yea these cars are really easy to get decent timeslips with nothing more than weight reduction, race gas, more boost and stuff like unbolting your exhaust. Even though its fun to see how fast you can go, I don't feel the need to take out a bunch of weight and unbolt my exhaust and etc.. because thats not how I would run on the street. I always like to know how my car would fare against other cars on the street (not that I street race of course).

And when I launched mine, I only revved to about 3300 or so and slipped the clutch. I pulled a 1.85 60' and that was the first time I had launched my car EVER. So I was pretty impressed.

i've launched at 6500 already, nothing broke. no one needs to see this and start bitching, i don't really care what anyone has to say on something like this. i've launched a ''junk'' gsx off the revlimiter for a long time and it never broke suprisingly.

I also have launched at the rev limiter. I raced at a 1/4 track for a solid summer. My gsx has 189,000 on it and it has not busted. The engine is what breaks down if not properly tuned. Start slow.

Before i bought my gs-t I had a awd talon. In two years I broke two center diffs and was on my 3rd clutch.I went to the track 2-3 times a month during the season and never launched on the street.I ran 13.6s consistent.I bought a gs-t cause I did not want all those problems again. As for all of you that have not had problems yet consider yourself lucky.
